Starkes zweites Quartal
Essen.
Evonik reports strong second quarter
Essen, Germany. As announced on June 26, Evonik delivered strong earnings in the second quarter. The ongoing conflict in the Middle East caused supply chain bottlenecks, mainly outside Europe, resulting in an economic windfall. In the second quarter, adjusted EBITDA rose by 24 percent to €630 million. In June, the company had forecast adjusted EBITDA in the range between €600 million and €650 million and significantly raised its guidance for fiscal 2026.

Pierre Laclede Junior Career Academy (Google Maps) Inside Pierre Laclede Junior Career Academy in north St. Louis a quiet but ambitious experiment is unfolding. Students come seeking physicals, counseling, health information, hygiene supplies and, sometimes, simply a safe adult willing to listen. The school-based clinic initiative — developed with IFM Community Medicine — is part of a broader effort to bring healthcare directly into schools serving vulnerable children.

Evonik defies adverse circumstances in the first quarter
Essen, Germany. Evonik achieved its operating profit target in the first three months of 2026 despite a very difficult business and economic environment. At €475 million, adjusted EBITDA slightly exceeded the company's earnings forecast of around €450 million. The war in the Middle East has resulted in price spikes for energy and important raw materials and significantly reduces supply chain security.
Evonik trotzt widrigen Umständen zum Jahresauftakt
Essen.

Jacob Blickenstaff’s new exhibition shows the work of a hands-on photographer
After nearly three decades in New York, photographer Jacob Blickenstaff is returning to St. Louis with an exhibition that feels both deeply personal and quietly radical. Show of Hands, opening March 6 at Clayton’s Bruno David Gallery, turns away from celebrity faces and toward the physical labor of making music—fingers, palms, gestures, touch. Blickenstaff, 46, spent part of his childhood in University City and came of age in Olivette.

Descendants of Enslaved Call Out Saint Louis University
He wasn’t there, but one couldn’t help but wonder whether Dr. Fred Pestello felt the brickbats hurled his way from Saint Louis University’s Busch Center. His office is just a couple of blocks down the street. Members of Descendants of the Enslaved of SLU, a non-profit with an acronym DSLUE, were accusing the Jesuit university’s president at a spirited press conference and teach-in Thursday, February 8, of slow-walking consideration of their demands for reparations.

Letter: Time for a grownup in the Senate: Tiffany Smiley
To the editor — You would think Patty Murray would learn, after 30 years in the Senate. Ask yourself who put Biden's Cabinet in power? The Senate does. Every Cabinet seat and federal judgeship must be Senate confirmed. And Patty voted to confirm every Biden nominee. She even voted for a Supreme Court justice who couldn't give a definition of a woman! Her answer to problems is to recklessly throw money at them. Think of the Inflation Act, American Restoration Act.

When she returned to the states, Shourd found that solitary confinement was — and still is — endemic in the U.S. She set about trying to bring it to an end by writing and producing The BOX, which debuted in 2016.

Lufthansa to cut 4% of capacity in July-August
Deutsche Lufthansa is cancelling a total of 3,100 flights after a wave of coronavirus infections worsened staffing shortages, adding to Europe’s travel chaos as the crucial summer vacation period gets under way. Germany’s flagship airline on Friday announced it will scrap 2,200 domestic and European routes in July and August, on top of 900 cancellations unveiled earlier this month. That’s about 4% of the carrier’s capacity during that period, according to a spokesperson.
