Elgin to focus on education for riders of e-bikes, scooters as they wait for state law to take effect

Elgin will spend the next five months educating the public about upcoming statewide restrictions and regulations on micromobility devices such as e-bikes and scooters, rather than instituting any interim ordinances. A new state law regulating electric bikes, e-scooters, and similar devices takes effect beginning Jan. 1, 2027, setting universal age requirements, speed limits, and licensing and insurance mandates. The law replaces a patchwork of local municipal ordinances.

Young deer rescued from Fox River by Aurora Fire Department

A young deer that nearly drowned in the Fox River was saved Wednesday by members of the Aurora Fire Department and the city's Animal Care and Control division. According to a press release, a city staff member was on the Downer Place bridge downtown at about 9:30 a.m. when they noticed a young fawn appear out of a drainage pipe in the Fox River. They called Animal Care and Control, which then called the fire department to assist with a rescue operation.

Bloomingdale man airlifted after crash on Route 25 in Geneva overnight

A 30-year-old Bloomingdale man was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries after his car went off the road and crashed in Geneva early Wednesday morning. According to a news release from the Kane County state's attorney's office, the man was driving northbound in the 800 block of North Bennett Street (Route 25) at about 1 a.m. when his vehicle exited the roadway, striking a brick mailbox, a parked vehicle and a utility pole. He was flown to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.
