The pomegranate (Punica granatum L. cv. ‘Wonderful’) genome and P. protopunica shed light on pomegranate domestication. Is Daru a wild stock? - BMC Genomics
P. granatum tree var. ‘Wonderful’ (PG-100-1) trees were grown in the nursery at the Newe-Yaar Center of the Agricultural Research Organization (ARO). We covered young leaves to obtain etiolated leaves and immediately froze them in liquid nitrogen. To remove residual polysaccharides and salts and to purify high-molecular-weight (HMW) genomic DNA, a salt: chloroform-based cleanup was performed following PacBio SampleNet protocols.

How labor market institutions influence the relationship between exchange rate regimes and economic growth
Methodology We study the effect of the exchange rate regime on economic growth, and how it is moderated by the flexibility of the labor market. The benchmark relationship therefore is: (1) In the equation, represents the growth rate of the real per-capita GDP of country i in year t. We use the exact definition of the growth rate () rather than the approximation usually used (which is ). This choice, however, has virtually no effect on the results of this study.

Transcriptional reprogramming in the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium brunneum and its aphid host Myzus persicae during the switch between saprophytic and parasitic lifestyles | BMC Genomics | Full Text
Metarhizium brunneum isolate MbK constitutively expressing the GFP reporter gene was cultured on Sabouraud dextrose agar (SDA, Difco) plates at 28 ± 0.5 °C in the dark (defined as complete medium, CM). For saprophytic growth in vitro, conidia were harvested from three replica plates (14 days old) into 0.01% Triton X-100. Conidial suspensions were transferred through two layers of gauze pads to exclude hyphae. The concentration was measured using a hemocytometer and adjusted to 1 × 108/ml.

Lipolysis pathways modulate lipid mediator release and endocannabinoid system signaling in dairy cows’ adipocytes - Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology
Cultured adipocytes were exposed to activators of canonical (ISO) and inflammatory (LPS) lipolysis pathways for 7 h. Following, lipolysis intensity was assessed through the quantification of glycerol release by adipocytes (Fig. 2A). The lipolytic responses of ISO- and LPS-treated adipocytes exceeded BAS levels by 1.5- and 1.6-fold, respectively, but were not different between lipolytic agents.

Maternal supplementation with n-3 fatty acids affects placental lipid metabolism, inflammation, oxidative stress, the endocannabinoid system, and the neonate cytokine concentrations in dairy cows | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology | Full Text
Dietary n-3 FAs positively affect the physiological and reproductive properties in dairy cows [45]. In this work we aimed to investigate how maternal supplementation with different sources of n-3 FAs affects the genes and proteins related to the main physiological pathways in the placenta of dairy cows.
Maternal supplementation with n-3 fatty acids affects placental lipid metabolism, inflammation, oxidative stress, the endocannabinoid system, and the neonate cytokine concentrations in dairy cows | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology
Abstract The placenta plays a crucial role in supporting and influencing fetal development. We compared the effects of prepartum supplementation with omega-3 (n-3) fatty acid (FA) sources, flaxseed oil (FLX) and fish oil (FO), on the expression of genes and proteins related to lipid metabolism, inflammation, oxidative stress, and the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in the expelled placenta, as well as on FA profile and inflammatory response of neonates.
Genome wide inherited modifications of the tomato epigenome by trans-activated bacterial CG methyltransferase - Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences
Abstract Epigenetic variation is mediated by epigenetic marks such as DNA methylation occurring in all cytosine contexts in plants. CG methylation plays a critical role in silencing transposable elements and regulating gene expression. The establishment of CG methylation occurs via the RNA-directed DNA methylation pathway and CG methylation maintenance relies on METHYLTRANSFERASE1, the homologue of the mammalian DNMT1.
Physiological and Molecular Mechanisms Associated with Potato Tuber Dormancy
Tuber dormancy is an important physiological trait that impacts postharvest storage and end use qualities of potatoes. Overall, dormancy regulation of potato tuber is a complex process driven by genetic as well as environmental factors. Elucidation of the molecular and physiological mechanisms that influence different dormancy stages of tuber has wider potato breeding and industry relevant implications.
Probiotic cultivated meat: bacterial-based scaffolds and products to improve cultivated meat
Highlights Cultured meat production requires microcarriers, hydrogels, and scaffolds for 3D growth and support. Co-culturing techniques of probiotic bacteria and cell cultures are available. New home sales in Israel hit 15-year low
In the second quarter of 2023, 17,000 new homes were sold in Israel, the Central Bureau of Statistics reports, the lowest figure since the fourth quarter of 2008 in the wake of the US financial crisis. In June 2023, 7,097 new homes were sold, down 33% from June 2022, and down almost 50% from June 2021. This is nothing short of a freefall in a sector that is slow to react to market volatility.
