Have you ever used a typewriter?
Two years ago I unstuck the door to a practice space with a broken typewriter that was discarded in the corner of the hallway. This counts!
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It's about refining: taking raw material, whether it’s cultural trends or art or happenings, and respectfully connecting the dots.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I wrote an article about Deerhunter that took a lot out of me, but I got a real positive response!
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Do it for yourself, first and foremost. Don’t network *at* someone; enjoy what you do, be confident, and you’ll find the connections for you.
What's your favorite drink?
Alcoholic? Gin and tonic. Non-alcoholic? My boyfriend's Diet Dr. Peppers that I sneak a sip from when he isn’t looking.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
KEXP does wonderful interviews. I’ve also enjoyed almost everything The Baffler’s ever released.
