First it was an odd thing with my gut. Then my old nemesis, my lower back, roared up from the depths to torment me. I’m fine—neither of these issues is serious—but they’ve definitely been crimping my automotive style. Ah, the joys of turning 68.

After I bought the 1969 Lotus Elan +2 in late October of 2024, there were any number of sort-out issues to deal with (mice, a bad universal joint, an unsecured brake caliper, more). It wasn’t until last summer that I began driving it enough to find that, once the seasonal heat was on, the engine ran hotter than I was comfortable with.

It’s all minor; it’s being resolved, but I’ve been running at quarter speed, and long wrenching sessions where I’m bent over or twisting under an engine compartment have been out of the question.
