The Old Pueblo played host to Texas Swing on June 11 as legendary country music band Asleep at the Wheel swung through Tucson. Fronted by Ray Benson, AATW hits the road on their 2026 Riding High Tour. And this group is no stranger to the road. For better than five decades, Asleep at the Wheel has been thrilling live audiences throughout the United States. This early summer Tucson gig was no exception. These masters of Texas Swing are as synonymous with the state as any band touring today.

It was a day that most Warren Zevon fans assumed would never happen. Not because he wasn’t talented enough or had enough hits, but because Zevon was always unapologetically Warren. That was a tough guy to take sometimes. Nevertheless, Warren Zevon was one of the most revolutionary singer-songwriters of the last half century. And in November of 2025, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The professional and personal lives of Zevon were filled with both triumph and tragedy.

It is the most seminal impromptu jam session of all time. The date was December 4, 1956. During the session Bob Johnson, the entertainment editor of the local paper, was called to document the event. The following day, the account was published in the Memphis Press-Scimitar. It read: “Yesterday Carl Perkins was cutting some new records at Sam Phillips’ Sun Record studio on Union at Marshall. Elvis dropped in. So did Johnny Cash. Jerry Lee Lewis was already there.
