It is the most seminal impromptu jam session of all time. The date was December 4, 1956. During the session Bob Johnson, the entertainment editor of the local paper, was called to document the event. The following day, the account was published in the Memphis Press-Scimitar. It read: “Yesterday Carl Perkins was cutting some new records at Sam Phillips’ Sun Record studio on Union at Marshall. Elvis dropped in. So did Johnny Cash. Jerry Lee Lewis was already there.

Songwriting is a fickle beast. Some artists swear it is a science while others claim it is an art. Whatever the case, it seems that songwriting is a struggle for most and comes a bit easier for others. Don Schlitz was one that made it look easy. For nearly half a century, Schlitz was one of the preeminent songsmiths of Music City, scoring over 20 #1 hits. Sadly, Don Schlitz was called home in April of 2026 at the age of 73. A Country Music Hall of Famer, Don was born in Durham, North Carolina in 1952.

Former major league baseball pitcher Adam Wainwright will be a hall of famer one day. He is a shoe in for the accolade from the St. Louis Cardinals, his professional organization for nearly two decades. In addition, Adam is a relative lock to earn the esteemed honor from the state of Georgia, the land of his birth. He even has a good shot at the revered National Baseball Hall of Fame.
