Illustrations for Aesop’s Fables: The Creation of a Series with a Preliminary Historical and Aesthetic Analysis
Keywords Aesop's fables, illuminated manuscripts, illustrated College Fine Arts and Communications Abstract Aesop’s fables are some of the most well known stories, as well as some of the most widely illustrated. They are typically very short, have only a few characters, and have a simple plot. Consequently, the stories provide excellent subject matters for pieces in my illustration portfolio. I can communicate a story in one image, be imaginative, and still expect the story to be recognizable.
Paintings of Service in Haiti
Keywords paintings, Haiti, service, artwork College Fine Arts and Communications Abstract When I began the process of applying for this grant, my idea was to go to Haiti and serve the children there. However, after I had received the ORCA grant, I discovered that groups were no longer allowed into the country due to safety issues during the elections in Haiti. I discussed this with my mentor, Robert Barrett, and was advised to choose another organization. I was introduced to “Bridge of Love”.
The Children’s Literacy Project
Keywords children's literacy, picture books, graphic novel College Fine Arts and Communications Abstract The purpose of this project was two fold. First, we wanted to create a literacy tool that could be used by educators to help bridge the gap between picture books and novels. Second, we wanted to expand our skills and knowledge through the art form of sequential storytelling. It was interesting because as we began this journey our desire to help others was the main goal.
