Prenatal stress and gestational epigenetic age: no evidence of associations based on a large prospective multi-cohort study
Abstract Psychological stress during pregnancy is known to have a range of long-lasting negative consequences on the development and health of offspring. Here, we tested whether a measure of prenatal early-life stress was associated with a biomarker of physiological development at birth, namely gestational epigenetic age acceleration (GEAA), using foetal cord-blood DNA-methylation data from three population-based cohorts.
Essential First Aid Skills: CPR, Heimlich Maneuver, and Bleeding Control
What different types of skills come to mind when you think about Basic First Aid? Chances are, you probably thought about CPR, also known as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. And if you did, you’d be absolutely correct. In this article, we will discuss CPR, the Heimlich Maneuver, and Bleeding Control as a few of the most basic – and without question most important – first aid skills everyone should know. Many people remember the big push nationwide for CPR training that occurred in the 1990s and 2000s.
Alcohol consumption in Wisconsin: Driving safe in a state known for over-indulging
Alcohol consumption is one of the most polarizing topics that gets discussed not only in our community, but statewide and nationally. Largely, it’s because Wisconsin is well-known for the amount of alcohol that Wisconsinites consume. If you’ve been on social media over the past few years, you may have seen a list going around. Based on national polling, seven of the 10 drunkest cities in the entire country are located here in Wisconsin.
Differential levels of circulating RNAs prior to endometrial cancer diagnosis
1 INTRODUCTION Uterine corpus cancer, generally known as endometrial cancer (EC), is the sixth most prevalent cancer in women worldwide and is the most common gynecological cancer in countries with a high or very high development index.1, 2 EC occurs predominantly in postmenopausal women.
My business will no longer serve Christians
Another Supreme Court ruling comes, stripping away protections in favor of a zealous, hate-filled, authoritarian minority. If you'll forgive me a detour before addressing the title of this article: It is not hyperbole to say this hatred flies in the face of these Christians' purported savior's teachings and the very words of their sacred text. It is not hyperbole to say that this rising tide of bigotry causes harm to individuals, families, and society as a whole.
Effects of prenatal exposure to (es)citalopram and maternal depression during pregnancy on DNA methylation and child neurodevelopment - Translational Psychiatry
Abstract Studies assessing associations between prenatal exposure to antidepressants, maternal depression, and offspring DNA methylation (DNAm) have been inconsistent. Here, we investigated whether prenatal exposure to citalopram or escitalopram ((es)citalopram) and maternal depression is associated with differences in DNAm. Then, we examined if there is an interaction effect of (es)citalopram exposure and DNAm on offspring neurodevelopmental outcomes.
Nucleated red blood cells explain most of the association between DNA methylation and gestational age - Communications Biology
Abstract Determining if specific cell type(s) are responsible for an association between DNA methylation (DNAm) and a given phenotype is important for understanding the biological mechanisms underlying the association. Our EWAS of gestational age (GA) in 953 newborns from the Norwegian MoBa study identified 13,660 CpGs significantly associated with GA (pBonferroni<0.05) after adjustment for cell type composition.
Increasing Prevalence of Medically Complex Children in US Hospitals
Abstract OBJECTIVE: In this study we used national data to determine changes in the prevalence of hospital admissions for medically complex children over a 15-year period. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Data from the Nationwide Inpatient Sample, a component of the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project, was analyzed in 3-year increments from 1991 to 2005 to determine national trends in rates of hospitalization of children aged 8 days to 4 years with chronic conditions.
Dichotomizing the spectrum of ductal shunt places long-term outcomes research at risk

We commend Collins et al on a comprehensive analysis of extensive follow-up data designed to evaluate the long-term implications of a neonatal diagnosis of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA).1 We agree that the literature is lacking thoughtful, well-designed studies in this area.

Their recitation and agreement with a number of the limitations we had outlined, as well as our admonition of caution regarding translation of our results to contemporary cohorts and practice, is beneficial; it is important that such things be considered with any scientific report.

Care System Redesign for Preterm Children After Discharge From the NICU
Approximately 1 in 8 children in the United States are born preterm. Existing guidelines and research examine the cost of prematurity from the NICU stay and developmental surveillance and outcomes after discharge from the NICU. Preterm children are at greater risk for excess hospitalizations, outpatient visits, and societal costs after NICU discharge.
