High-accuracy longitudinal position measurement using self-accelerating light
Abstract Radially self-accelerating light exhibits an intensity pattern that describes a spiraling trajectory around the optical axis as the beam propagates. In this article, we show in simulation and experiment how such beams can be used to perform a high-accuracy distance measurement with respect to a reference using simple off-axis intensity detection.
Structured Photons Open Door to High-Dimensional Quantum Gates
Encoding quantum information into the spatial properties of single photons shows great promise for increasing information capacity per photon. MARCUS HUBER, INSTITUTE FOR QUANTUM OPTICS AND QUANTUM INFORMATION; AND MARKUS HIEKKAMÄKI AND ROBERT FICKLER, TAMPERE UNIVERSITY Quantum communication offers unparalleled security and is arguably the most advanced application of quantum information science. Its fundamental strength derives from the fact that single photons can transmit information.

A primary radiation standard based on quantum nonlinear optics
Abstract The black body remains the most prominent source of light for absolute radiometry1. Its main alternative, synchrotron radiation, requires costly and large facilities2. Quantum optics offers a new radiometric source: parametric down-conversion (PDC), a nonlinear optical process, in which pairwise photon correlations enable absolute calibration of photodetectors3,4,5,6.

High-dimensional quantum cloning and applications to quantum hacking
Attempts at cloning a quantum system result in the introduction of imperfections in the state of the copies. This is a consequence of the no-cloning theorem, which is a fundamental law of quantum physics and the backbone of security for quantum communications. Although perfect copies are prohibited, a quantum state may be copied with maximal accuracy via various optimal cloning schemes.
Automated Search for new Quantum Experiments
Abstract Quantum mechanics predicts a number of, at first sight, counterintuitive phenomena. It therefore remains a question whether our intuition is the best way to find new experiments. Here, we report the development of the computer algorithm Melvin which is able to find new experimental implementations for the creation and manipulation of complex quantum states.
