How to assess employment status
Under UK employment law, there are currently three main types of employment status: employee, worker and self employed. Each way of working comes with different rights and responsibilities. Employees have the highest level of employment law protection and rights, followed by workers and then the genuinely self employed. Misclassifying an individual’s employment status (for example, by treating them as ‘self employed’ when they are in fact an 'employee') can be very expensive.
Starting a new business: employment law implications
Have a clear vision of what role you are recruiting for and draft a job description. This should be detailed and focused on the skills and experience needed – ensure it is objective to avoid any discrimination (you will need to comply with the Equality Act 2010). Once the application process has finished, you'll need to go through a selection process to find the right candidate. Ensure the process is fair and consistent. Once you've found the best candidate, make them a written job offer.
Decoding Plans To Simplify The Transfer Of Undertakings Law
By Robert Forsyth (July 19, 2024, 2:16 PM BST) -- In May 2023, as part of its promise to cut red tape and introduce regulatory reforms to help businesses, the then-Conservative government released the paper "Smarter regulation to grow the economy," which proposed a number of reforms on issues, such as holiday pay, informing and consulting obligations for certain transfers under Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 2006, or TUPE, and noncompete clauses.[1]...

Litter-dwelling terrestrial molluscs of Nepisiguit Protected Natural Area and Mount Carleton Provincial Park, north-central New Brunswick
Abstract No comprehensive study of the terrestrial gastropod fauna of northern New Brunswick has previously been undertaken. Most terrestrial gastropod molluscs are tiny and generally live unnoticed under debris, in leaf litter, and among other dead and living vegetation. Sifting and sorting collected samples of leaf litter are effective in sampling snails.
Green Jobs For A Green Future
Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) is at the top of the agenda for many organisations. It is a collective term for a business's impact on the environment and wider society. But what are the views of those individuals whose roles are deemed to no longer be environmentally friendly?

Luftwaffe Special Weapons 1942-45
By 1943 Germany was engaged in war across multiple fronts while simultaneously being hammered at home by massed bomber formations. The Luftwaffe was therefore urged to come up with ever more creative and deadly weapons to make up for its falling numbers of available fighters. This book is the result of many years worth of research by the author, and conversations with German fighter aces and engineers in the 1990s.
Building a Spanish Civil War Duo: Messerschmitt Bf-109D vs. Polikarpov I-16
The Spanish Civil War saw some of the most modern and iconic weapons of the mid-20th century bloodied in combat for the first time. Tactics and technology were developed and tested in the skies over Madrid, Barcelona and Guernica during the 1936-39 conflict. The Messerschmitt Bf-109 and Polikarpov I-16, two of the most advanced fighters of their day, would go on to battle each other in one form or another for the next eight years.
Aces of the Condor Legion: Book Review
Aces of the Condor Legion by Robert Forsyth, Osprey Publishing, Oxford, England, 2011, $22.95 Although Robert Forsyth’s book certainly describes all the German aces involved in the Spanish Civil War—with a breakdown of their claims in an appendix worthy of Luftwaffe account-keeping—he goes a few steps further. With a brief summary of the underlying politics and events leading to the conflict in Spain, he shows how the Germans came to be there.

Respect and Division: How Australians view religion
Australians’ famously tolerant attitude toward religion endures. But this view has a clear blind spot — religious organisations. Our research indicates Australians are viewing religion as mostly a personal belief, and they are happy for their neighbours to enjoy certain religious liberties, such as freedom of speech. Recent polling has found most (54 per cent) believe religious people should be free to publicly express their views – even if others find them offensive.

Counting the Costs of an ‘Independent Nuclear Deterrent’ | RealClearDefense
As a former Royal Navy submarine commander, I read with interest Hugh White’s suggestion that Australia may, in the decades to come, need to confront the issue of whether it should have its own nuclear weapons. In his new book, How to defend Australia, White argues that Australia can no longer rely in the long term on the U.S.’s ‘nuclear umbrella’.
Same-sex marriage is a test of Australian maturity that we may not pass
It's time not just to focus on who will win the marriage war, but how we are going to live with the peace. For good or ill, the legislation of same-sex marriage in Australia became inevitable once Labor made it party policy. Irrespective of what happens with the postal plebiscite, Labor will achieve government at some stage. There will be no peace until same-sex marriage is enacted in a way that can't be undone.
