It’s sort of ironic. The city plans to spend $1.5 million to “calm” (impede) the traffic on 34th Street. While a half-mile away the state is spending $25 million to ease traffic. For the $1.5 million we’ll get green paint, white paint, those ugly white posts (which will have to be replaced periodically) and maybe even some of those $150 zebradillos. I’m guessing 34th was intended to be a thoroughfare to get traffic to 164th Avenue and state Highway 14, not necessarily to be nice to bikers.

The semiclassical backreaction equations are solved in closed Robertson-Walker spacetimes containing a positive cosmological constant and a conformally coupled massive scalar field. Renormalization of the stress-energy tensor results in higher derivative terms that can lead to solutions that vary on much shorter time scales than the solutions that would occur if the higher derivative terms were not present. These extra solutions can be eliminated through the use of order reduction.

Abstract : The objective of this study was to compare the electrophoretic pattern of serum proteins in newborn calves, lambs, goat kids and piglets in precolostral blood samples. Blood samples were collected within 30 min of birth, prior to ingestion of first colostrum, and the concentrations of total proteins and protein fractions were analyzed using electrophoresis on agarose gel.
