iMAP – the origins In recent years, modelling tools have become widely used in formal impact assessments of the European Commission (EC), appearing in about 25–30 per cent of all assessments (Acs et al., 2019). In 2005, when the idea for the integrated Modelling Platform for Agro-economic Commodity and Policy Analysis (iMAP) was first conceived, the use of modelling tools was not yet standard practice, and the EC often outsourced this work to external research institutions.
