What was your first job as a journalist?
First full time job was as a producer for Open Source, a public radio show that was an early adopter of blending the online world with radio.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yep! But mostly for artistic reasons.
How is social media changing news?
News breaks here. It connects reporters with sources, story ideas and colleagues. And I know employers will judge me in part on my following.

Lois Lane!
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
A concise email is best, unless you know me IRL. Then a phone call is fine. It helps if you know my work and understand my beat.

Why did you become a journalist?
I fell in love with radio documentary and audio story telling. Then I realized that I love the digging, the research, the doggedness.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I was a painter, so I did a few editorial illustrations for my high school paper! Then I interned at NPR the summer after I graduated.
