Long Beach DMV office to close for 15 weeks of renovations

Customers needing driver’s licenses, registration, or other issues will have to go outside the city as the Long Beach DMV office will close for 15 weeks later this month. The DMV field office at 3700 E. Willow St. is scheduled to close for renovations Oct. 30, and won’t reopen until Feb. 17, said Jessica Gonzalez, a DMV spokeswoman, in an email. Staff and customers will be redirected to the Bellflower, Compton, Torrance, San Pedro and Westminster field offices during the closure.

Heat wave’s peak is a triple-digit Friday in Southern California

LOS ANGELES — The Southland’s latest heat wave will peak today, generating triple-digit temperatures in several communities, and high surf will slam the coast, producing perilous rip currents expected to last through much of the weekend, the National Weather Service said. NWS forecasters warned that the weather will create the risk of heat-related illnesses for residents of the region, especially the homeless, the elderly, infants, and people working or playing outdoors.

Long Beach Symphony to bring ‘spooktacular’ music and more this month

The Long Beach Symphony Orchestra begins its new season with a night of “spectacular” music followed a week later by “spooktacular” melodies on stage and possibly a few ghouls and monsters in the audience. “This program has pretty spectacular music. All three pieces are huge orchestral showpieces. They’re colorful and kind of spectacular in their own way,” said guest conductor Edwin Outwater, who will open the classical season Oct. 10.
