Originating in the region of Västergötland, this primitive spitz herding breed is valued for its intelligence, versatility, and strong working character. Historical records trace the breed back to at least the 8th century, though it nearly disappeared in the 1940s before being revived through careful breeding efforts.

The Farm Bill works for every American family
I’m proud to represent over 2,000 farms stretching from Chicagoland to Danville and west to Pontiac. In August, I embarked on my annual farm tour to hear directly from Illinois farmers about what they need from lawmakers in Washington. Overwhelmingly, the most significant concern for Illinois is the successful passage of a new Farm Bill. While some Americans may have never heard of this legislation, it is one of the most important responsibilities that Congress takes on every five years.

Guest Commentary | Abortion care is health care
I am deeply troubled by the decision of the Danville City Council to approve an ordinance banning the mailing and shipping of abortion pills. As a congresswoman, mother and grandmother, it is my obligation to stand for the rights of all my constituents to access the care that they need and deserve. Not only does this ordinance threaten critical health-care access for women in the region, it also explicitly violates Illinois state law.
Rep. Robin Kelly: Urgent need to increase clinical trial diversity
Racial diversity is not the only category we need to improve. We must also diversify clinical trials with people across age groups and by sex and ethnicity. Last year, in an analysis of more than 20,000 trials over the past 20 years, the NIH found that sex bias persists within clinical trials, with male and female participants underrepresented in different areas of research.

Why it's time to treat gun violence as a public health epidemic
Gun violence is a public health crisis, but at the federal level we are neither doing enough to prevent it nor to mitigate its impacts. We have seen the mass shootings that have claimed the lives of shoppers, salon workers and pedestrians so far this year. However, what causes deeper concern is how prevalent and pervasive gun violence is in the daily lives of our community members. We are battling a public health epidemic, but we are not treating it that way.

Guest viewpoint: Why I support the new USMCA
Illinois and the Midwest have long been the breadbasket of the world. Soybeans, corn, wheat, pork and other products are proudly grown here and feed people all over the world. Likewise, we still make American steel products, cabinets, pharmaceuticals and beverage cans right here in Kankakee. In order for the goods grown and produced in Illinois to reach markets across the globe, trade is essential.

America’s maternal mortality crisis is shameful
This weekend, we celebrate our mothers, grandmothers, aunts, stepmothers and all the women who love and nurture us. There will be brunches and mimosas, cards and flowers, backyard BBQs and fancy dinners. It might just be a quick call saying, “Hey mom, I love you.” Each family will be celebrating their moms in their own special way. For many of us, the days of spending this holiday with our moms have sadly passed.

“Ready for Rail” derailed again - The Fulcrum
The opening of the new Light Rail Transit (LRT) Confederation Line has been delayed from Nov. 2 to a yet to be determined time in early 2019. The November date was already a six-month delay from the initial opening date, which was scheduled for May. The Rideau Transit Group (RTG), a compilation of companies contracted to complete the project, was found to be behind schedule in late August after an assessment by the City of Ottawa did not match the RTG’s updates.
Black mamas are dying. We can stop it.
Black mothers are dying and it’s time to do something about it. Every year, more than 700 American mothers lose their lives to pregnancy or birth-related complications. Some medical professionals estimate that at least half, if not more, of these deaths are entirely preventable. While the deaths of 700-plus American mothers should shock us all, the statistics are much worse for African American mothers.
