Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Ka, from "Snow" by Orhan Pamuk. Alternatively, Serdar Bey, also from "Snow," who prints the next day's news before it happens.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I did. I spent most of my time shirking responsibilities.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I spent nine months following one resident of a nursing home, reporting on institutionalization and what it's like to grow old.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Learn shorthand! I should follow this advice.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

I'm not an editor, so I tend to do the pitching.
