1 INTRODUCTION The left atrial appendage (LAA) is the major nidus for thrombus formation and subsequent embolization in atrial fibrillation (AF). Traditional oral anticoagulation remains the mainstay of treatment to prevent thromboembolism in AF. However, it is not without any adverse events, such as bleeding, a narrow therapeutic window, drug interactions, and poor patient compliance.
