Opinion | Rail rule would take Michigan backward
I recently traveled from Lansing to another important capital, Washington D.C., to discuss rail infrastructure with Michigan’s congressional delegation — namely the critical role railroads play in propelling our state economy and its continued growth. Rail connections attract and sustain business. They help expand our communities while mitigating increased traffic from heavy trucks.
Victory: Reduce crime in Michigan through productivity credits
Roger Victory | The Detroit News Every Michiganian deserves to live and work in a safe community. This is especially true for those who have been victims of crimes. Together, we can reduce crime in our state by bringing down repeat offenses and save taxpayer dollars with productivity credits.
Forum: It’s time to reform Michigan’s juvenile justice system
The Michigan Legislature has an unprecedented opportunity to help protect public safety and improve outcomes for youth across our state. The House and Senate will soon be voting on House Bills 4624-4643 and Senate Bills 418-437, the Justice for Kids and Communities bill package, which is a comprehensive, long overdue effort to bring Michigan juvenile justice policy in line with national research and best practice.

Then the coronavirus came to Michigan and everything changed.
My Take: Reaping winning policies
By Roger Victory, 30th Senate District Friday Aug 21, 2020 at 9:42 AM As a business owner and farmer, I have seen firsthand how impactful the presidential administration can be to both large corporations and small business owners. In Michigan, we pride ourselves on contributing to two honorable industries — agriculture and manufacturing — both of which would be negatively impacted if former Vice President Joe Biden were to occupy the Oval Office.
Dangerously high water levels require immediate action
We have witnessed the highest lake levels since the mid-1980s. Seeing the devastation on both public and private lands truly has been eye-opening. There have been homes, yards, roads and dunes lost due to the erosion that has occurred. There has been a large increase in permit applications to construct erosion prevention measures like riprap, seawalls and sandbags.
