Letter: ICE is doing exactly what we pay them to do
To the editor — My family is here, so I can drive recklessly. My family is here, so I can assault others. My family is here, so I can steal. My family is here, so I can be in the country illegally. It doesn’t add up. On Christmas Eve, Mr. Ezequiel Morfin was out documenting and warning others that ICE was in the area, even challenging their possible religious beliefs, ie: “Are they not Christian?” simply because they are doing what our taxes pay them to do — uphold the law.
Lincoln, Nebraska, Was a ‘Greenwich Village’ on the Prairie for Mari Sandoz
Were I to write a Mari Sandoz biopic, I’d start with a shadow racing across her desk. I’d start at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 1935. I’d start with a 39-year-old hayseed — thin as a fence post and prickly as barbed wire — assaulting her typewriter on the ninth floor of the Nebraska State Capitol as a local bank teller plunges 135 feet to his death on the stone transept below. Perhaps I’d cut to the fingernail marks he left on the observation deck five floors above, or the note he left behind.
What Kind of Fool?
The Spouter. While some reflect on what they’re going to say before opening their mouth, this fool “gushes folly” (Prov. 15:2, 14) at a moment’s notice. Once he has taken his stand, his inability to be dissuaded can make him dangerous: “Better to meet a bear robbed of her cubs than a fool bent on folly” (Prov. 17:12). And his views will always make as much sense to him as returning to its vomit makes to a dog (Prov. 26:11).
Kissing Frogs - The Sun-Gazette Newspaper
By Ron Hull According to one version of an old story, there was once a handsome prince trapped inside a frog. There he languished until one day—wonder of wonders—a beautiful princess picked him up and kissed him! Zap! He was transformed from frog to prince. Nice story. But very likely in the real world? When was the last time you saw a beautiful princess kiss a frog? Actually, you may have seen it and just didn’t know it.
