Pittsburgh's air quality considered "unhealthy for everyone" on Friday due to wildfire smoke

The air quality will remain poor today. Officially, the air quality will be in the "very unhealthy" to "hazardous" range. How hazardous are things? Wildfire smoke, like what we are dealing with today, really gives you a double whammy when it comes to impacting your health. The first is that you may notice when talking about air quality that we label it with a number, and then we put behind it PM2.5 or maybe 10.

Wildfire smoke and poor air quality expected on Thursday in Pittsburgh | First Alert Weather

The next two days are First Alert Weather days due to hot weather and air quality. The air quality is expected to be at its worst this evening, overnight, and into Friday afternoon. Air quality alert in our region - Thursday, July 16, 2026 Thursday is a Code Red Day issued by the Pennsylvania DEP. This means the air is unhealthy for everyone, and time spent outdoors should be limited.

Hazy skies and high temperatures expected in Pittsburgh on Wednesday | First Alert Weather

Did you notice the hazy skies yesterday? Smoky skies kept highs out of the 90s in most places yesterday. I don't think it will be enough today, though, as I am keeping our high temperatures in the low 90s. I have Pittsburgh seeing a high of 91° with noon temperatures in the mid-80s. Morning lows dipped into the low 70s, and that's about where they will be for the rest of the work week. Heat advisory in place through Wednesday night I also have highs in the 90s on Thursday.
