GUEST OPINION: Real threat to TABOR refunds is right here in Colorado Original
Over the past few weeks, you have likely seen news warning there will be no TABOR refund in 2025. Democrat leaders blame Washington and H.R.1, but this loss is the result of years of their deliberate decisions to weaken the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights, our state’s most important taxpayer protection. TABOR, passed by voters in 1992, is simple: the government can only grow at a reasonable rate, and any extra revenue must be refunded to taxpayers.
GUEST OPINION: Restoring balance to boost housing affordability
As Coloradans continue to grapple with rising housing costs and a limited supply of affordable homes, it has become increasingly clear that action must be taken to address the underlying issues fueling this crisis. The housing affordability crisis has reached a breaking point, with working families, young professionals, and seniors alike struggling to find stable and affordable housing options in communities they call home.
GUEST COLUMN: Protecting Coloradans from damage to buried infrastructure
The secret has long been out about Colorado as a great destination, remaining one of the top-10 fastest growing U.S. states. With that population growth, construction is understandably booming in Colorado, supporting nearly a quarter million jobs in the industry. Despite unpredictable construction costs and labor challenges, Colorado outpaces the nation in construction starts, with 3.5 times more building permits issued than the national average since 2022.
(Opinion) Rose Pugliese & Scott Bottoms: Governor Polis all talk about reducing income taxes
It is no secret that the people of Colorado are overtaxed. Once a campaign promise, Gov. Jared Polis has repeatedly voiced his commitment to reducing income taxes in Colorado. He continues to call on the state Legislature to make this happen. It is time for him to make these more than soundbites and deliver tangible relief.
Colorado can address social-media victimization of kids | PODIUM
Like any Coloradan with young kids, my household is a hive of activity and emotions. The pre-teen stage of parenting is rewarding. I enjoy seeing my kids form their own opinions, explore new ideas and take steps to become more independent. But it’s also challenging, especially in today’s world of the internet and social media. Beyond the everyday haste of making sure we’re not late to school, attending extracurricular events and talking about our days over dinner, we’re addressing serious issues.

Does the governor really want a ‘Colorado for all’? | OPINION Original
The governor laid out his vision for Colorado in his “State of the State” address. Let us start with what was blatantly missing. The governor wants a “Colorado for all” yet barely mentioned rural Colorado. It is as if he fails to remember that there is a Colorado outside of the Denver-Boulder area. To be expected? Yes, but nonetheless disappointing, especially after five years in office. The affordable and attainable housing crisis is real.
(Opinion) Rose Pugliese: A New Year’s wish for Colorado — more bipartisanship
The arrival of the New Year prompts us all to pause, take a breath, and reflect on the journey of the past twelve months. It is a time to reassess our priorities, refine our visions, and chart a course for the year ahead. In the Colorado legislature, 2023 was a rollercoaster ride, marked by high emotions and, unfortunately, few constructive conversations. As we step into 2024, I find myself hoping that this year can be the year of balance through bipartisanship.

Opinion: Prop. HH is a tax increase that wrecks our Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights Original
Editor’s note: This column is part of a pro-con about the Proposition HH which will appear on the ballot for the November 7 election. Read the supporting view here. Proposition HH is the most blatant bait-and-switch scheme ever placed on the Colorado ballot. An examination of its details shows it is cynically crafted, deeply deceptive, and must be defeated. We are faced with Proposition HH at a time when Coloradans’ anxiety about their property tax bills has never been higher.

Don’t be fooled - vote ‘no’ on Prop HH Original
It is unfortunate that the governor and legislative Democrats failed to fully engage in any conversations about the potential solutions to the property tax issue facing hard-working Colorado families who are struggling to make ends meet. The ballot measure, Proposition HH, that Coloradans are being asked to vote on in November 2023 was rushed, with very limited discussion of its true impacts.
GUEST COLUMN: Proposed abortion laws too extreme for Colorado
Democrats, with the largest majority in Colorado’s history, are empowered this legislative session. After the Dobbs decision which overturned Roe v. Wade and made abortion a state’s rights issue, Democrats credited their strong statewide victories to a pro-choice agenda. But despite a strong performance by Democrats in the last election, the Coloradans represented by the 19 House Republicans still deserve a voice.
GUEST COLUMN: Coloradans don't deserve the retail delivery fee
On Sundays, I have family dinner with my cousin and his family. We grew up like siblings and big, Italian family dinners are a staple of our week. When the .27 cent retail delivery fee hit the streets, it was the topic of conversation at the dinner table that Sunday. I tell you this story because my cousin is not political or even active in politics.
GUEST COLUMN: Keep America’s competitive economic edge
Misguided federal policy proposals are once again threatening to exacerbate America’s wounded economy and risk our nation’s competitive edge. Congress and the White House seem to misunderstand economic pressure points and how implementing many of their recent legislative proposals would come at the detriment of American investment and innovation.
Pugliese: Polis on a hiring binge, Dems have hot mic moment
It is always to easy to grow government when the state is flush with money. The problem is how is it sustained after the money goes away. For most elected officials, like the Governor, there are term-limits, so even if he is re-elected this year, Jared Polis will likely not have to face the hard task of laying off people or cutting programs down the road. I have been there. It is not pretty. The Governor’s budget request was recently heard by the Joint Budget Committee (JBC).
Guest Commentary: Don’t give our voice and votes to California. Vote “no” on the National Popular Vote.
Editor’s note: This op-ed ran as a pro-con in The Denver Post on Sunday, Sept. 27. You can find an argument for why voters should vote “yes” on Proposition 113 to tie Colorado’s electoral college votes to the winner of the national popular vote here. Colorado’s nine electoral votes should go to the candidate who wins the most votes in Colorado, not the candidate who wins the most votes in the other 49 states. It’s that simple.
Guest Commentary: Mesa County’s Palisade Plunge bike path shows the power of an efficient environmental review
One of President Donald Trump’s campaign promises was to cut burdensome regulations and excessive government red tape that constrain business development, which strengthens our economies. As a commissioner from Mesa County, where our county is 72% federal land, I am very familiar with the National Environmental Policy Act and its impacts on federal land development.
Opinion: Ray Scott and Rose Pugliese: Colorado natural gas resources lead to geopolitical and environmental gains
By Ray Scott and Rose Pugliese The Western States and Tribal Nations initiative to export Piceance Basin and Uinta Basin natural gas to Asian liquefied natural gas markets is gaining momentum, and the acceleration comes as our need to create benefits from our collective resources is as important as ever to not just our states but the world at large. First, a little history.
