Floating sounds: remembering John Russell
Living tendrils that coil around their supports, and each other: that was the character of my relationship with John Russell, and perhaps the character of his music, too. John loved his garden like a guitar. “Gardening is good for the soul,” he said to me more than once, both rooted and rootless in that floating sense many drawn to improvisation epitomise. One of our spirals sprouted in 1991, when I saw him at The Untitled Gallery, Sheffield.
A roadmap for closing the diversity & inclusion gap
There is a discord among corporate diversity and inclusion (D&I) initiatives. Just 1 in 10 D&I programs reach maturity in the workforce. This is despite 87% of organizations stating it as a value or priority area. It’s a sobering stat, and one which is going to take on greater importance as younger generations - millennials through to Generation Z - become the dominant groups within the workforce.

Forget the platform, your story should be the only thing that matters
Marketing and communications looks like it was an easy job in the pre-internet age. There were only a few ways you could communicate with customers and nowhere near as many brands competing for market share. No wonder everyone was out on long lunches. They clearly had too much free time – and budget – on their hands. All you needed was one brilliant idea to get noticed. Today you’re lucky if someone has time for a coffee.
