In vivo biotoxicological assessment of nanoplastics and microplastics predicted using the zebrafish model
Nanoplastics (NPs) and microplastics (MPs) are small plastic particles that have become ubiquitous in the environment due to their widespread use in modern consumer products and industrial processes (Cox et al., 2019). These particles can enter the environmental ecosystem through various routes, including wastewater discharges (Bayo, Olmos & López-Castellanos, 2020), stormwater runoff (Mason et al., 2016), and atmospheric deposition (Allen et al., 2020).
Representation of investigation results of microplastics on sandy beaches-accumulation rate and abundance in the entire study site
Global plastic waste pollution is occurring at an unprecedented pace on a global scale (Willis et al., 2017). Between 4 and 12 million metric tons of land-based plastic waste is estimated to have entered the marine environment in 2010 alone (Jambeck et al., 2015), and the forecast is for a cumulative increase to 12 billion metric tons by the year 2050 (Geyer, Jambeck & Law, 2017).

Presence of microplastics and microparticles in Oregon Black Rockfish sampled near marine reserve areas
Subadult rockfish collection The subadult rockfish were sampled in nearshore waters off the Oregon Coast from two distinct sampling efforts: samples collected in cooperation with a local recreational charter fishing company in the port town of Newport, Oregon (Charter Fish) and samples collected by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW Fish) in proximity to four geographically distinct marine reserves as part of hook-and-line monitoring activities (Fig. 1).
Evidence of microplastics in water and commercial fish from a high-altitude mountain lake (Lake Titicaca)
Water sampling The water samples were collected during the survey of the project “Working for a healthier aquaculture in Lake Titicaca” (TEAM Project, VLIR-UOS) in Huatajata, Central Islands, and Desaguadero (July, 2021), and Nacoca and San Jose (August 2021; Fig. 1). Samples were collected along transects from the shoreline to open waters of the Lago Menor. Surface water (between 0.5 to 1 m depth) was collected using a 1 L Van Dorn bottle.
