What was your first job as a journalist?
I actually began writing for myself. I have a website at offscriptconsults.com. So, I started off by contributing to my Off Script Blog.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
My mom got a typewriter at a garage sale. I had an assignment that needed to be typed. Since I didn't have a computer, I used a typewriter.
How is social media changing news?
Social media made news more accessible than ever before for almost anyone at any age. Unfortunately, there is also the downside of fake news.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
I like Lois Lane from the TV series "Superman & Lois." I love how she tries to pursue tough stories. She doesn't compromise her integrity.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
To be a journalist is to help people know more about a topic. Hopefully, your words will make a difference with their next steps.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
The following are important: 1) What is the topic and your goal, 2) Who is your audience, 3) When is the due date
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I usually use Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and CMS. I also seek out resources from PubMed, government websites, and disease organizations.
What's your favorite social network?
My favorite social network is LinkedIn. It provides trustworthy news. This platform can also help me build connections and job search.
Why did you become a journalist?
I believe that education through writing can be powerful. With engaging and relatable content, I hope to help people with their goals.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I actually did not work for my high school newspaper. I fell in love with writing late in high school through my AP English course.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I tend to be most proud of stories that educate people and help them on their journey in some way - whether that is starting a business, etc.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Don't lose hope! If it is your dream to write, be on the lookout for new opportunities. Follow companies and set up job alerts!

What's your favorite drink?
I like carbonated drinks with a little bit of caffeine. Since I'm trying to reduce my Diet Coke intake, I am trying to switch to Sodastream.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
I am either spending time with my husband, walking my dogs, exercising, or reading.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I actually really love to read my old classmate's blog called: "Glamorous or Not." She fearlessly shares her changing views about pharmacy.
