English Infectious meningitis is defined as meningeal inflammation of an infectious etiology. It is a notifiable disease. From an epidemiological point of view, the incidence varies according to age group, geographical area, and season of the year. In general terms, in our setting, the incidence is estimated at 2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants per year, of which 10% would have criteria of seriousness and the consequent associated morbidity and mortality.
