Nothing makes me see red like setting off on a walk and finding that an old bridleway or footpath has been closed off to the public. Confession time: I tend to see it as a challenge to make my way past the obstruction and continue with an appearance of great innocence. All too frequently a path is shut because a new landowner doesn't want the great unwashed trampling too close to their house, or enjoying the natural beauty they're lucky enough to have temporary stewardship over.
