Harnessing citizen science for marine conservation in Malta: a comparative analysis of GAM and MaxEnt models in bottlenose dolphin habitat mapping
Effective conservation planning relies on identifying areas that are important for species survival and on understanding how environmental factors influence their distribution. SDMs are widely used tools for obtaining this information, particularly in data-limited contexts (Elith & Leathwick, 2009; Guisan et al., 2013).

Genetic structure and relatedness of brown trout (Salmo trutta) populations in the drainage basin of the Ölfusá river, South-Western Iceland
Changes in key climatic factors are predicted to be more pronounced in higher latitudes (Hoegh-Guldberg et al., 2018), and organisms that cannot respond by moving along gradients of latitude and altitude will be more affected (Chen et al., 2011). Potentially this applies to many populations of brown trout (Salmo trutta) in subarctic freshwater systems, such as those found in Iceland. This species most likely colonized Iceland soon after the end of the last Ice Age 10–14,000 years ago.
Wing morphological responses to latitude and colonisation in a range expanding butterfly
Introduction A population may respond to climate change either by altering its phenotype to maintain local fitness, or by shifting distribution and/or phenology to track its climatic envelope (Parmesan & Yohe, 2003; Macgregor et al., 2019). During a range expansion populations on the range front are subject to multiple selection pressures (Phillips, Brown & Shine, 2010).
The distribution and numbers of cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) in southern Africa
(3) We establish a rigorous standard of data provenance. Existing range maps arise from a combination of direct observations and expert opinion, and thus incorporate extensive experience. That said, one cannot readily interrogate a location to know whether a species was observed there and, if so, when and by whom, or whether its presence was inferred. The results we present provide such provenance.
