Conclusions The ethnobotanical literature available for the model invasive weed yellow star-thistle showed a diversified range of traditional uses including medicinal, gastronomic, and as prime material, conferring an important economic and cultural value to the species in its native range. However, the only confirmed use of the species in the non-native range was honey-making and, indirectly, as forage, but only within the context of planned weed-control interventions.
