Influence of elevated temperature on hydride formation and hydrogen-assisted deformation in pure titanium
Abstract The effect of temperature on hydride formation and hydrogen-induced deformation in α-Ti was investigated using tensile testing combined with in-situ SEM observations. Microstructural characterization of hydrogen-charged and deformed specimens at both room temperature and 80 °C demonstrates that temperature significantly alters both the hydride phase and the mechanical response of the α-Ti matrix.
Investigating electrochemical charging conditions equivalent to hydrogen gas exposure of X65 pipeline steel
1 INTRODUCTION With hydrogen emerging as a clean energy carrier,[1] the transportation and storage of pressurized hydrogen gas have gained recent interest,[2-6] for example, repurposing existing natural gas pipelines for hydrogen gas transportation.[7] Pipelines should withstand pressures in the range 150–200 bar, due to the low energy density of hydrogen gas.[8] Hydrogen can degrade a material's mechanical properties, a phenomenon known as hydrogen embrittlement (HE).[9] Because of safety...
"Rustfritt stål" er ikke alltid rustfritt
INDUSTRI Det mangler kunnskap om bruk av såkalt rustfritt stål og syrefast stål i oppdrettsnæringen, skriver artikkelforfatterne fra NTNU og Sintef. Materials and corrosion trends in offshore and subsea oil and gas production
High-strength and high-toughness materials with improved fatigue life are desirable, if not essential, to overcome the design challenges imposed by the extreme pressures of HPHT wells and the low temperatures of Arctic regions.
