Rebecca Buckwalter-Poza

Rebecca Pilar Buckwalter-Poza, or RPBP, is a former political consultant and current attorney. As Judicial Affairs Editor at Daily Kos, she covers law and politics, focusing on racial justice, LGBT rights, and the courts. She also provides commentary for radio and television.

She has worked on progressive campaigns and policy projects on five continents, including as a Henry Luce Scholar at the Asian Legal Resource Center in Hong Kong. There, she published work on human rights and rule of law issues throughout Southeast Asia cited by the New York Times and other mainstream media outlets. Most recently, Rebecca was a Fellow at the Center for American Progress focusing on access to justice.

Previously, Rebecca served as Deputy National Press Secretary of the Democratic National Committee during the 2008 presidential election. She has also worked for the Progressive Accountability Office, where she directed the polling and analytics program as well as special projects; the Center for American Progress; and the Office of James Carville.

Rebecca co-authored James Carville’s 40 More Years: How Democrats Will Rule the Next Generation as well as contributing to Paul Begala’s Third Term. She has written for Democracy Journal, CNN, NPR, The Daily Beast, Pacific Standard, The Nation, The Atlantic, Politico, among others.

Rebecca received an A.B. in Government from Harvard College and a J.D. from Yale Law School. She clerked for the Honorable Margaret Ryan on the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces and the Honorable Juan R. Torruella on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Rebecca has been recognized by Glamour and the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation for her work in public service.
