Evaluation of salivary α‐amylase and immunoglobulin A responses after endurance exercise in adolescent males and females with similar aerobic fitness
INTRODUCTION Salivary α-amylase activity has been regarded as a marker of stress and sympathetic drive [1]. It is also important for mucosal immunity in the digestive and immune systems and is a protein that inhibits bacterial adhesion and exhibits antimicrobial activity [2, 3]. According to Rohleder and Nater [4], acute salivary α-amylase responses can be detected in children from the age of 7 years of age and appear to reach adult magnitude in adolescence.
