Patterns of inflammation in childhood and mental and cardiometabolic disorders in adulthood: mapping the trajectories
Mental and cardiometabolic disorders rank among the leading causes of burden of disease worldwide (Global Burden of Disease Collaborative Network, 2024). These disorders are highly multimorbid (i.e., the presence of 2 or more long-term conditions), and their relationship appears to be bidirectional (Nakada et al., 2023; Nuyen et al., 2021; Ronaldson et al., 2021).

Adverse events after first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccination in England: a national vaccine surveillance platform self-controlled case series study - Ruby SM Tsang, Utkarsh Agrawal, Mark Joy, Rachel Byford, Chris Robertson, Sneha N Anand, William H
Introduction The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) immunisation programme in the United Kingdom (UK) began in December 2020, with the UK’s Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) initially recommending COVID-19 vaccination for all adults aged 18 years and over, and prioritising older adults, care home residents and staff, health and social care workers, and individuals in clinical risk groups.
COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness against hospitalisation and death of people in clinical risk groups during the Delta variant period: English primary care network cohort study
Summary COVID-19 vaccines have been shown to be highly effective against hospitalisation and death following COVID-19 infection. COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness estimates against severe endpoints among individuals with clinical conditions that place them at increased risk of critical disease are limited. We used English primary care medical record data from the Oxford-Royal College of General Practitioners Research and Surveillance Centre sentinel network (N > 18 million).
Development of a modified Cambridge Multimorbidity Score for use with SNOMED CT: an observational English primary care sentinel network study
Data source and variables The study used pseudonymised CMR data from the RSC sentinel network database, which is recruited to be representative of the general population.12 The UK has registration-based primary care in which each patient registers with a single general practice. All patients who were registered for ≥12 months before the study index date (study start date) and aged ≥16 years at the study index date for each model were included.

Highlights • We present a serological survey of COVID-19 infections in England. • This study used sera collected alongside routine blood tests in primary care. • Seropositivity was higher in younger age and in Black and Asian ethnicities, • and also higher in major conurbations and in non-smokers. • We found no difference by deprivation, sex or shielding recommendation.
Pfizer-BioNTech and Oxford AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness and immune response among individuals in clinical risk groups
Highlights • COVID-19 vaccine antibody response and effectiveness was evaluated among clinical risk groups. • High effectiveness was observed and normal response maintained in most risk groups.

Dear Editor, Sivan et al’s editorial (1) and Ayoubkhani et al (2) helpfully describe the scale of adverse health outcomes for people hospitalised with COVID-19. We agree, that key questions are yet to be answered of this complex, heterogeneous patient group such as whether particular symptom clusters exist, the impact on disparities, and whether the young fit population are disproportionately affected (3).
