A ∼0.5 Myr perturbation of carbon and mercury cycles during the Middle Triassic biotic radiation
Abstract INTRODUCTION RESULTS AND DISCUSSION MATERIALS AND METHODS Acknowledgments Supplementary Materials REFERENCES Information & Authors Metrics & Citations View Options References Figures Tables Media Share Abstract The Anisian Stage (Middle Triassic) marks a pivotal interval for biotic recovery following the Permian-Triassic mass extinction, yet its environmental drivers remain poorly understood.
An unexplored coupling process enhances dark Hg(II) reduction in mineral-Hg(II)-DOM ternary systems
Abstract Photochemical and microbial-mediated reduction of mercury (Hg) are recognized as key processes and pathways for Hg geochemical cycling and atmospheric emissions. However, these processes cannot fully account for the total budget of global elemental Hg(0) production. Here we show that net Hg(0) production is significantly enhanced in a goethite-Hg(II)-DOM ternary system under dark conditions, representing a ubiquitous mineral-organic interface in surface ecosystems.
Ancient storage of anomalous mercury isotope signatures in the Earth’s transition zone - Nature Communications
Abstract Characterizing the mantle transition zone (MTZ) is essential for understanding Earth’s evolution and dynamics. Petrological, geochemical, and geophysical evidence suggests that the MTZ may host subducted slabs containing sediments and volatiles, potentially forming enriched mantle 1 (EM1) reservoirs. However, the links between volatiles, subduction components, and mantle endmembers stored therein remain unclear.
