1 Introduction This paper examines a distinctive migration chronotope (or a spatio-temporal articulation of migration), namely the counter-diasporic mobilities of second-generation individuals who relocate to the country of parental origin. Our analysis foregrounds the centrality of place in shaping the imaginings, decisions and outcomes of these returns.

The crowd flying Australian flags, chanting stop the invasion, and send them back, were not being racist but concerned with excessive levels of immigration. This is an eyewitness account, and no one even glanced in the direction of my obviously foreign complexion.

Today, almost all of our cities regret their transport systems, with too much space allocated to cars, excessive congestion and pollution and diminished liveability. Many are desperately trying to reclaim their streets from the tyranny of the motor vehicle. Will autonomous vehicles and sustainable cities coexist, or will AVs become an obstacle to liveability? AVs are coming. We do not know how quickly they will be deployed or what setbacks they will encounter, but they are coming.
