Microbially mediated carbon utilization by a cold-water coral inhabiting methane seeps - Scientific Reports
Abstract Deep-sea methane seeps fuel biodiverse habitats sustained by the release of hydrocarbon-rich fluids and associated microbial activity. Here, we describe the ecology of a seep-associated cold-water coral and provide evidence of its associations with chemosynthetic bacteria.

Do Chemosynthetic and Coral Communities Defy Deep‐Sea Ecological Paradigms?
Aim Broad biodiversity patterns (e.g., the latitudinal diversity gradient) are cornerstones of ecology that are fundamental in understanding the distribution of life on the planet. In the deep sea, declining faunal abundance/biomass with depth and a mid-continental slope diversity maximum are among the most well-defined patterns. However, they have largely been tested with samples of sediment faunal communities.
