Spatio-temporal overlap between purse seine fisheries and Humboldt penguin feeding areas in northern Chile
Commercial fishing activities exert a wide range of pressures on marine ecosystems (Moore & Jennings, 2000). These include the extraction of key biological resources, reducing prey availability for native predators; physical impacts of gear such as nets, cables, and hooks on habitats and individuals; and the incidental capture of non-target species including marine mammals, birds, and turtles (Lewison et al., 2014).
Drivers of microplastic pollution in soil sediments at fish landing centers in Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair), South Andaman Island
Microplastic pollution has emerged as a critical global environmental issue, with an estimated 381 million tons of plastic produced annually, a significant portion of which degrades into microplastics (<five mm) through fragmentation, industrial abrasion, and the release of synthetic fibers (Anuar et al., 2022; Khan & Bose, 2024; Andrady, 2011).
A Jack of All Trades-Tawaki/Fiordland penguins are able to utilise diverse marine habitats during winter migration
Tawaki are one of seven crested penguin species (Eudyptes sp.) currently recognized by the IUCN Redlist (https://www.iucnredlist.org/) and the only crested penguin that breeds in a temperate and continental setting—that is, on the mainland coast of Aotearoa/New Zealand (NZ), rather than on remote subantarctic islands (Mattern & Wilson, 2019a).

Daily accumulation rates of floating debris and attached biota on continental and oceanic island shores in the SE Pacific: testing predictions based on global models
AMD with pelagic epibionts and floating times Accumulation rates of rafts with a pelagic trajectory, as indicated by the presence of pelagic epibionts, were significantly higher on oceanic Rapa Nui beaches than in all other regions, which is in line with our hypothesis. Along the continental coast, highest frequencies of objects with pelagic epibionts were expected in the southern region, where the West Wind Drift meets the South American continent.
A review of raptor carcass persistence trials and the practical implications for fatality estimation at wind farms
Recommendation for carcass persistence trials based on this review The findings of this review help to inform good practice for undertaking carcass persistence trials in several respects: Timing of trials and individual carcass placement. Carcasses should be placed randomly at a wind facility throughout the period when collisions could occur for the species of interest (e.g., full year for resident raptors, during migration, the breeding or overwintering seasons).
