Sean Couturier calls out ‘soft’ Flyers teammates after loss to Capitals
The Philadelphia Flyers are back on a losing streak. After winning three games in a row, the Flyers have now lost three straight after a 5-2 road loss to the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night. The Capitals took an early lead on an Alex Tuch goal, but the Flyers were able to stem the tide and tie the game back up early in the second period. Unfortunately, the Capitals scored twice more before intermission, and the Flyers’ third-period comeback came up short this time around.
The Flyers just lost in the most ‘unacceptable’ way possible
The Philadelphia Flyers showed up late and left early on Tuesday night. They were outplayed in the first period, falling behind 3-0 to the Columbus Blue Jackets while mustering just two shots on goal in the opening frame. After that, things turned around a bit for the Orange and Black. Starting in the second period, the Flyers were able to connect some passes together, win some battles, and find their first goal of the game through a leaky Cam Talbot.
Flyers should take a chance on Ivan Miroshnichenko
The Philadelphia Flyers have three notches in the win column, but they aren’t out of the woods just yet. They’re still trying to find some line combinations to create offense while they wait for a few key injured players to return. However, how long can they wait? Danny Briere and Keith Jones may want to be proactive in the trade market to help shake things up. We saw them sign Michael Bunting earlier this month for a spark, and the recent youth movement has helped the depth a bit.
The Connor Hellebuyck trade is both good and bad news for the Flyers
Any time a big trade happens in the NHL, we, the sentient blog Broad Street Hockey, immediately ask one thing: how does this affect the Philadelphia Flyers? That’s especially the case when that trade occurs in the Metropolitan Division The New Jersey Devils ended up as the winners of the Connor Hellebuyck sweepstakes, landing the netminder from the Winnipeg Jets on Friday.
Returning veterans could force a difficult decision on Flyers’ blue line
The Philadelphia Flyers may be receiving some reinforcements ahead of Saturday afternoon’s battle against the Anaheim Ducks. The injury list has gotten long in Philadelphia, with forwards Travis Konecny and Owen Tippett on the shelf, and defensemen Rasmus Ristolainen and Cam York missing from the blue line. However, a few players may be on the mend.
Rick Tocchet may have found 2 lineup combinations to build around
The Philadelphia Flyers are making their way out of the 0-6-3 hole they dug themselves into, thanks to a few consistent combinations in recent games. For the first few weeks of the season, Rick Tocchet had his lines fully in the blender. The only constant was a struggling fourth line, with the more skilled forwards having a hard time finding chemistry.
Flyers’ turnaround gives Danny Briere leverage in trade talks
A lot can change in just a few days. Heading into the weekend, the Philadelphia Flyers were at the bottom of the league with a winless start through nine games. They were dealt a few more blows in the form of injuries, as well, with a pair of playoff teams coming to town. There are still plenty of questions surrounding Rick Tocchet’s longevity behind the Flyers’ bench, and if this is the right group to take the next step on the ice, that’s for sure.
Rick Tocchet’s Noel Acciari gamble paid off — but will it last?
When the Philadelphia Flyers took the ice for warmups on Tuesday night, there were a few things we wanted to see. First of all, Cole Knuble getting his rookie lap was a confirmation that he’d be making his NHL debut, while game-time decision Sean Couturier took line rushes as well.
Flyers recall prospect Hunter McDonald to bolster blue line
The Philadelphia Flyers finally got their first win on Saturday night, but the injury bug kept biting. Owen Tippett missed the victory due to an upper-body injury, and Tyson Foerster blocked a shot with his hand before returning for the second period. Tippett, Foerster, and Sean Couturier are all now game-time decisions for Monday night’s contest against the vaunted Colorado Avalanche.
Travis Konecny is far from the Flyers’ biggest problem — and trading him won’t help
There are a lot of problems with the Philadelphia Flyers right now. From top to bottom, you can point to nearly every member of the organization and assign blame. Travis Konecny is not one of those problems. And if you think he is, he’s toward the bottom of the list. The team’s leading scorer for the last five seasons is tied for the team lead with three points through the Flyers’ nine games so far this season. Konecny has only played in five of them before hitting the shelf with a lower-body injury.
Elliotte Friedman weighs in on Travis Konecny drama and Flyers trade rumors
Things are spiraling out of control for the Philadelphia Flyers, and when that happens, trade rumors start to spin up. The Flyers have yet to make any real impactful moves, instead opting to sign veteran free agent Michael Bunting and swapping depth forwards to call up Jack Studnicka for Carl Grundstrom. A trade could be in the cards, with Danny Briere reportedly receiving a lot of calls from general managers around the league, but that remains to be seen.
Flyers should consider claiming Aatu Raty off waivers
The Philadelphia Flyers have got to do something to turn around their 0-5-3 start. They signed veteran free agent Michael Bunting last week and called up Jack Studnicka to replace Carl Grundstrom over the weekend. Neither of those moves are really going to move the needle in the long run, but at least Danny Briere and Keith Jones are pressing what buttons they can before slamming the “break glass in case of emergency” button. We’ll see how long that takes.
Flyers don’t appear to be considering a coaching change
The seat may be heating up under head coach Rick Tocchet, but the Philadelphia Flyers don’t appear ready to make a coaching change just yet. Despite a 0-5-2 start for a team that somehow looks worse than its record, the Flyers are fully behind their head coach. “Fully. Fully behind (Tocchet),” Trevor Zegras said when asked about his head coach after Sunday night’s loss. “He’s an amazing person. He’s an amazing coach. He does so many little things for us behind the scenes.
Flyers recall forward Jack Studnicka, loan Carl Grundstrom to Phantoms
The Philadelphia Flyers have to do something to shake things up after a horrendous start, and perhaps a few depth moves can be the start of that. The team placed Helge Grans on waivers on Monday afternoon — a good sign for, at the very least, Cam York’s availability for Tuesday’s matchup against the Kraken — then announced a pair of roster moves later that evening, sending Carl Grundstrom down to the Phantoms and calling up in his place center Jack Studnicka.
Tocchet: Flyers ‘got to stick together’ to get out of the muck
The Philadelphia Flyers played another hockey game — if you could call it that — on Saturday afternoon. After an encouraging effort on Thursday night in Ottawa, the Orange and Black reverted back to their listless efforts in a 5-1 loss to the Bruins in a Boston matinee. The Flyers got some bad news before the game with injuries keeping Travis Konecny and Cam York out of the lineup this weekend, while Rasmus Ristolainen was placed on injured reserve.
Travis Konecny, Cam York headline brutal Flyers injury update
Things have gone from bad to worse for the Philadelphia Flyers. After a 0-3-2 start, the team announced a handful of injury updates prior to Saturday afternoon’s game against the Boston Bruins. Injury updates: • Travis Konecny (lower-body) and Cam York (upper-body) are day-to-day. • Rasmus Ristolainen has been placed on IR (upper-body) retroactive to Oct. 3. • Helge Grans has been activated from Injured, Non-Roster.
The Flyers finally have something to build on after their brutal start
The Philadelphia Flyers put up their best effort of the young season on Thursday night in Ottawa, but it still wasn’t enough as they fell 2-1 in the Senators’ home opener. While saying it was their best effort may not mean much given how poorly the first four games went, the Flyers were legitimately the better team at 5-on-5 for large portions of the loss.
Moving Trevor Zegras back to wing is an unfortunate necessity of the Flyers’ slow start
Nothing is working right now for the Philadelphia Flyers. Rick Tocchet has the line blender out in full force, for better or worse (mostly worse), and that continued with the biggest shakeup of the season at Thursday’s morning skate. We dug into the Flyers’ lineup changes a bit earlier, and one of the most notable changes is moving Trevor Zegras back to wing. Zegras was effective late last season down the middle, even showing that he has the potential to be the Flyers’ first-line center.
Flyers’ constant line juggling is making a bad start even worse
The Philadelphia Flyers have had countless issues at the start of the season, and some of them started in training camp. Sure, if things continue to get worse, we’ll dig deeper into the potential foundational issues with this rebuild, but let’s not completely overreact to a four-game sample size in the span of six days against some pretty good teams. But for now, I’m going to look at a few things that have been a bit bothersome since the start of training camp.
The Flyers’ biggest training camp mistake is already coming back to haunt them
Going into training camp, you always want there to be some healthy competition. The Philadelphia Flyers didn’t have that this year. Sure, there were battles among players to see where they’d slot into the lineup, but there weren’t really any questions heading into training camp. If you took a look at the Flyers roster on July 1 after they signed Noel Acciari, the 20-plus players on the opening night roster would’ve been the ones you predicted.
Rick Tocchet has ‘no idea’ why the Flyers are off to a sloppy start
The Philadelphia Flyers managed to get a point in the second half of a back-to-back on Thursday night in New Jersey. They were lucky to have Joseph Woll in net, as the goalie helped the Flyers steal a point on the road. It was a better effort on Thursday than the night before, but the bar was on the floor after a historic beatdown in their home opener against the Penguins.
Flyers swap forward prospects in trade with the Kraken
To all of the fans yelling at the Flyers to do something at Wednesday night’s game, Danny Briere heard you. Well, maybe. The Philadelphia Flyers announced a swap of two AHL forwards on Thursday afternoon, sending Devin Kaplan to the Seattle Kraken for David Goyette. TRADE ALERT: We have acquired forward David Goyette from Seattle in exchange for forward Devin Kaplan. — Philadelphia Flyers (@NHLFlyers) October 1, 2026 The Flyers drafted Kaplan in the third round (69th overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft.
The Flyers proved their biggest fear was justified on opening night
Complacency (noun): a calm sense of well-being and security: the quality or state of being satisfied. That was one of the buzzwords used time and time again by the Philadelphia Flyers in the offseason and training camp. From the top down, general manager Danny Briere and head coach Rick Tocchet were worried about the players showing some complacency after last season — or rather weren’t worried, given how hungry this team is.
Oddsmakers expect breakout seasons from the Flyers’ young stars
The Philadelphia Flyers’ 2026-27 season gets underway on Wednesday night, and the spotlight is going to be on Matvei Michkov and Porter Martone. Michkov is looking to bounce back from an admittedly down sophomore years, while Martone is hoping to pick up where he left off after joining the Flyers late last season. Matvei Michkov is entering his third full season with the Flyers. He came over a few years earlier than expected and went through some ups and downs in his first 161 NHL games.
Flyers shake up forward lines at final practice before season opener
The Philadelphia Flyers open the regular season on Wednesday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Due to the shortened training camp and only four preseason games, the Flyers don’t have their lineup set in stone as of yet. Add in an injury to Denver Barkey, as well as banged-up Nikita Grebenkin, and there are a few more questions. PHLY’s Charlie O’Connor shared the Flyers’ lines and pairs at Tuesday’s practice. Let’s take a look at them one by one.
Flyers officially announce 2026-27 opening night roster
The 2026-27 NHL season is here. The Philadelphia Flyers officially announced their 2026-27 opening night active roster on Monday afternoon. The deadline for teams to submit their opening rosters was at 5 p.m. ET, and the Flyers got just ahead of that. After Oliver Bonk, Cole Knuble, and Jett Luchanko were sent down over the weekend, and Aleksei Kolosov was loaned back to the AHL on Sunday, there weren’t too many questions about who would make the 23-man roster.
David Jiricek has lost his grip on a spot in the Flyers’ opening night lineup
The Philadelphia Flyers have whittled down their roster during this shortened training camp ahead of their season opener this week. While rosters aren’t officially due until Monday, the Flyers more or less have the group of 23 players that they’ll be opening the season with. One of those players is defenseman David Jiricek, who had a leg up in the blue line battle as he is no longer waiver-exempt.
Flyers ‘very hopeful’ Dan Vladar ready for season opener, Denver Barkey nearing return
The Philadelphia Flyers are just a few days away from opening their 2026-27 season, with their first matchup against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday night. The shortened preseason slate is over, but the Flyers didn’t get out of it unscathed. Roster players suffered injuries in their first two preseason games, with Helge Grans leaving the third. Nikita Grebenkin also got banged up in the Flyers’ penultimate exhibition contest and did not play on Saturday.
Trevor Zegras had the perfect response to his ridiculous jersey-tuck penalty
Trevor Zegras made his preseason debut in the Philadelphia Flyers’ 2-0 win over the Boston Bruins on Thursday night. Zegras didn’t find his way onto the scoresheet with a goal or assist, but he did take an unusual two-minute penalty midway through the second period. Just before the halfway mark of regulation, Zegras was issued a two-minute delay of game penalty for improper wearing of equipment.
David Jiricek has the inside track in Flyers’ blue line battle
The Philadelphia Flyers are largely returning most of last year’s roster that made the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but there are roster battles on the fringes here in the shortened training camp. Not only are there a handful of young forwards fighting for a spot or two in the bottom six, but there’s a battle on the blue line at the bottom of the depth chart as well.
Flyers get encouraging news about Dan Vladar’s injury, avoid nightmare scenario
The Philadelphia Flyers appear to have avoided disaster with goaltender Dan Vladar. Vladar left Tuesday night’s preseason game in Boston early in the first period with an apparent arm injury. It was the goalie’s first action of the year after signing a five-year, $27.5 million contract extension in the summer. However, the Flyers dodged a bullet with their goalie, according to the update provided by head coach Rick Tocchet on Wednesday afternoon. Vladar is day to day, per Tocchet.
Flyers unveil a potential new top power-play unit at practice
There have been a few consistent issues for the Philadelphia Flyers for the last few years (or decades) no matter who is in charge. One of them is goaltending, which they may have solved with Dan Vladar and Joseph Woll, but the more pressing problem has been the power play. After finishing dead last in the league with a 15.7% success rate last season, Rick Tocchet wanted his coaches to think outside the box to come up with ideas for the power play. It can’t get worse, right?
Matvei Michkov is putting on a show at Flyers training camp
All eyes were on Matvei Michkov this summer as the Philadelphia Flyers winger needed a strong offseason after an up-and-down sophomore campaign. Those eyes continued to be set on the Russian winger for the first three days of training camp last week. After coming into last year’s training camp out of shape, Michkov’s hard work this summer is already showing early on in camp.
Flyers reduce training camp roster by 15 players
The Philadelphia Flyers completed their first three days of a shortened training camp with an intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday morning. They’ll be off on Sunday before getting back into things on Monday. However, not all of the players who were on the ice the past few days will be joining them. The Flyers announced their first round of roster cuts on Saturday afternoon, and there really aren’t any surprising names in the bunch.
Flyers training camp already has everyone fighting for their spot
The Philadelphia Flyers are officially back to work as training camp started this week. Most of the players had been skating together in an unofficial capacity over the last few weeks in an effort to knock some rust off before the season, and now they’re all back in the same building working toward the same goal. The Flyers are returning most of the same roster from last year’s playoff team, with a few depth additions made in the offseason.
Jett Luchanko is surprisingly making another push for a Flyers roster spot
There are always a few players who impress in training camp to make a push for the opening night roster. For the Philadelphia Flyers, one player has done that in each of the last two years, and he’s looking to make it three years in a row. Of course, we’re talking about Jett Luchanko. The Flyers infamously traded down to select Luchanko with the 13th overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.
Ranking the Flyers’ 5 best contracts right now
We’re officially in a new era of the NHL with the new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) kicking in as of Wednesday, Sept. 16. We saw a bunch of teams rush to sign players to eight-year contracts on Tuesday, as that was the last day that contracts of more than seven years were legal. The Flyers were not one of those teams, although Danny Briere & Co. signed Tyson Foerster to an eight-year, $56.8 million ($7.1 million AAV) contract earlier this summer.
Flyers’ 2026-27 promotional schedule features goalie glove oven mitt, Gritty dumpling
Hockey is in the air and we are just a few weeks from the 2026-27 NHL regular season getting underway. The Philadelphia Flyers already have two wins under their belts, at least in the Rookie Series, and on Tuesday, the team gave a glimpse into what fans could look forward to experiencing and receiving at the Xfinity Mobile Arena this season. Of course, we’re talking about the Flyers’ 2026-27 promotional schedule, with giveaways, theme nights, and more.
Predicting the Flyers’ opening night lineup way too early
The calendar has flipped to September and for the first time in nearly 20 years, there will be regular season NHL games played this month. The Philadelphia Flyers open Rookie Camp next Friday, with Training Camp shortly thereafter. They’ll open their preseason slate on Sept. 21 ahead of the season opener on Sept. 30 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Flyers are in an interesting position, roster-wise at least.
Matvei Michkov is back and already training with his Flyers teammates
Everyone can relax now: Matvei Michkov is back in Philadelphia. After PHLY’s Anthony Gargano reported on Monday that the Flyers forward would be back in Philadelphia that night, Michkov and the team confirmed it with photographic evidence on Tuesday afternoon. The boys are back in town. 📍 pic.twitter.com/SWW87oG2lC — Philadelphia Flyers (@NHLFlyers) September 1, 2026 Michkov is back on the ice in Voorhees with a bunch of his teammates.
3 important Flyers lineup questions ahead of 2025-26 season
The Philadelphia Flyers are entering a pivotal season in their rebuild. After unexpectedly making the playoffs — and winning a round — last year, the team is largely relying on internal improvements to keep the train chugging along this season. While Danny Briere did make a few key moves to raise the Flyers’ floor, it’s going to be on the players who tasted playoff hockey last year to get Philadelphia back there again and raise the ceiling. But how will the lineup look?
The Flyers took key steps to raise their floor this offseason
It ended up being a lackluster offseason for the Philadelphia Flyers, all things considered. The Leo Carlsson offer sheet ended up being a swing and a miss by Danny Briere and the Flyers, and while perhaps fans can take some joy in forcing the Anaheim Ducks into a bind, that ultimately does nothing for the hockey team playing in Philadelphia.
Are the Flyers the NHL’s best team without a true superstar?
The Philadelphia Flyers returned to the playoffs for the first time in six years last season without a true star skater. Before we get into things, the definition of a “star player” isn’t black and white. It really is a subjective thing. However, we can take an objective look at a subjective list of rankings. Over the course of August, NHL Network put out its rankings of the top 20 players at each skater position — center, winger, and defenseman — along with the top 10 goalies.
The Flyers have officially become nationally relevant again
There isn‚Äôt much going on in the hockey world in August, but Flyers fans got good and bad news on Wednesday afternoon ‚ÄĒ and it‚Äôs the same piece of news. The NHL released its national broadcast schedule for the 2026-27 season on Wednesday, with the Philadelphia Flyers being one of the teams featured the most. The Flyers will be featured on the national stage a total of 19 times, 11 of which are home games and eight on the road.
Flyers’ drafting looks even better after latest rankings
Earlier this week, we looked at the four Flyers that Corey Pronman ranked among the best players under the age of 23 in the NHL. Now, after those rankings largely included players drafted in the first round, The Athletic’s prospects writer put out his list of the top 100 players under 23 drafted outside the first round of the NHL draft.
4 Flyers ranked on Corey Pronman’s top NHL players under 23
We’re in the dog days of August, and we have yet another ranking that is generating some discussion. Corey Pronman, the senior NHL prospects writer for The Athletic, released his list of the top NHL players and prospects aged 22 or under as of Sept. 15, 2026. Pronman notes that his ranking is based on who he thinks will have the best NHL careers, so players like Zach Benson, who already has 101 points in 211 NHL games, may be ranked lower than you’d think.
Porter Martone shares the most embarrassing moment of his career
Porter Martone looked like he could do no wrong when he joined the Philadelphia Flyers at the end of last season. The rookie put up 10 points (four goals, six assists) in his first nine NHL games, and then scored the game-winning goal in each of his first two postseason contests, finishing the playoffs with five points in 10 games. Martone is the favorite for the Calder Trophy this season, and he was the Flyers’ representative at the NHLPA Rookie Showcase in Chicago this week.
3 bold ways to fix the Flyers’ power play next season
You don’t have to be a hockey expert to know that the Philadelphia Flyers need to improve on the man advantage. They’ve been one of the worst teams on the power play year over year, no matter the personnel or coaching staff. It almost seems like a curse at this point. Last season, the Flyers converted on a league-low 15.7% of their power-play opportunities. That was somehow an improvement over the prior year when they went 15% on the power play, and 12.2% the year prior.
Rick Tocchet reveals what impressed him most about Matvei Michkov this summer
It’s nearly the end of July, but there’s no shortage of things to talk about surrounding the Philadelphia Flyers this week. That’s partially due to Matvei Michkov, who draws eyes no matter what he’s doing. This time, it was another Michigan goal in the KHL “Match of the Year” charity game in Russia over the weekend. Michkov still thinks a Michigan goal in the NHL is ahead of him, and everyone marveled at his lacrosse-style tally as part of a hat trick in that game.
Jamie Drysdale opens up about Zegras friendship, Michkov drama, and Carlsson offer sheet
Jamie Drysdale has emerged as an important piece of the Philadelphia Flyers. The bar was set high when he was acquired in the Cutter Gauthier trade in January 2024, and after a year and a half in Philadelphia, Drysdale had a bit of a breakout campaign last year. Drysdale scored a career-high eight goals and tied a career-high with 32 points in 78 games last season. That production and his defensive development helped him earn a four-year, $26 million contract extension this summer.
