209 When placenta is the key… Placental mesenchymal dysplasia: A case report with bad outcome
Introduction and aims: Placental mesenchymal dysplasia (PMD) is a rare vascular and connective placental anomaly characterized by an enlarged and thickened placenta with multiple hypoechoic cystic spaces, which is often associated with severe fetal and/or maternal complications. We intend to discuss some severe complications of PMD to alert health professionals to the importance of this rare disease. Methods: We describe a case of undiagnosed PMD with several maternal and fetal complications.
Introduction and aims of the study: Acute pulmonary edema is a rare complication in pregnancy and postpartum, with an estimated incidence between 0.08 and 0.5%. Acute pulmonary edema is the main cardiovascular complication of preeclampsia and one of the criteria of severe preeclampsia; occurs in 3% of preeclampsia cases, 70% of which take place during postpartum. The main risk factors for acute pulmonary edema in preeclampsia are advanced maternal age, multiparity and chronic hypertension.
Introduction and aims: Malaria is the most important parasitic disease of humans, causing 10000 deaths of pregnant women each year. Pregnant women experience more severe disease with anemia, fever, preterm birth, fetal growth restriction, congenital infection and death of mother and/or fetus. One of the unique features of malaria in pregnancy is the ability of Plasmodium falciparum-parasitized erythrocytes to sequester within the intervillous space of the placenta.
