A YOLOv8-based dual-validation study against nine experienced microscopists for detection of intraerythrocytic Plasmodium species and cellular mimics on Giemsa-stained thin films in an Indonesian endemic setting
Highlights • YOLOv8 identified intraerythrocytic Plasmodium species on thin smears. • Morphological cellular mimics were differentiated from parasites. • External validation used independent endemic thin-smear slides. • Automated screening outperformed microscopists in sensitivity. • Real-world smear heterogeneity was incorporated into model evaluation. Abstract Microscopic examination of Giemsa stained thin blood films remains the reference standard for malaria diagnosis.
Time-Periodic Solutions of Stochastic Discounted Hamilton–Jacobi Equations
1 Introduction The contact Hamiltonian system, as a geometric representation of nonconservative dynamical systems, has been widely applied in fields such as thermodynamics, dissipative systems, and control theory. Compared to traditional symplectic Hamiltonian systems, contact Hamiltonian dynamics evolve on a contact manifold and naturally incorporate dissipation, allowing for the modeling of more complex physical processes such as energy decay and the evolution of nonconserved quantities [1-10].
Peripartum hypophosphatemia is associated with a hindgut-centered microbiota-metabolite-host axis in transition dairy cows
|
Abstract The transition period in dairy cows is accompanied by profound shifts in mineral homeostasis and gut microbial ecology. While endocrine regulation of hypocalcemia has been extensively characterized, adaptive responses to hypophosphatemia-and the potential involvement of the gut microbiota-have received far less attention. Twenty-four Holstein dairy cows were randomly assigned to control or low-phosphorus groups.

Efficient acceleration of energetic electrons upstream of Earth’s bow shock
Abstract It is widely believed that astrophysical shocks can accelerate particles to ultra-relativistic energy, via the well-established diffusive shock acceleration mechanism. However, this mechanism requires seed particles with kinetic energy sufficiently high, whose origin is still an enigma. Here we show observational confirmation of an efficient electron pre-acceleration mechanism at the Earth’s bow shock.
Efficient Data Assimilation Method for Optimizing Prediction of Flow Field and Sediment Transport in Open Channel
1 Introduction Accurate hydrodynamic modeling is crucial for predicting flow behavior in rivers, channels, and engineered waterways, with implications for flood control, infrastructure resilience, and environmental management. However, the reliability of hydrodynamic models is often limited by uncertainties in input parameters (Ahmed and Li 2024), particularly the spatial distribution of bed roughness or friction coefficients.
Comprehensive SAR Analysis of Actomyolytics, Drug Candidates Targeting the Actomyosin Complex
Introduction Conventional myosin-2 isoforms are motor proteins within the myosin superfamily that form a tight complex with, and move along actin filaments. These motions play pivotal roles in both physiological and pathological processes. Several myosin-2 isoforms have been identified. Muscle-type isoforms are essential for the contraction of the different muscle tissues found in the body[1].

Integrative in-silico models for mammalian cell cultures in single-use bioreactors: Bridging hydrodynamics, kinetics, and process control across scales
Scaling-up of a bioprocess involves replicating the cell growth behavior observed in laboratory-scale vessels within larger manufacturing settings, typically with operating volumes ranging from 1000 L to 10,000 L, or potentially larger. Maintaining a consistent growth environment, as characterized by parameters such as the specific power dissipation rate, mixing time, and/or oxygen mass transfer rate, becomes challenging (and often impossible) across this range of vessel sizes(Paul et al., 2004).

Elucidating the tandem synergistic roles of Cs-O dual sites confined in carbon nitride toward selective photoreduction H2O2 production coupled with xylose oxidation
Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is an essential and environmental friendly chemical resource with diverse applications in wastewater treatment, medical and healthcare, pulp bleaching, and fuel cells, leading to an increasing demand for H2O2 [1], [2], [3]. However, the widely used anthraquinone process suffers from drawbacks such as high energy consumption and the generation of toxic by-products [4]. Additionally, the transportation of H2O2 poses challenges.
Optimal regulation of modified biochar in solid waste-derived lightweight aggregates: Enhancing carbonation mechanisms and negative carbon emissions
In recent years, the construction industry has emerged as a major contributor to CO2 emissions across various industries [1]. Approximately 0.94 tons of CO2 are released into the atmosphere for every ton of cement produced [2], accounting for about 7–8 % of total CO2 emissions [3]. The combination of concrete materials such as lightweight aggregates and CO2 mineralization technology have exhibited significant potential in achieving carbon emission reduction [4], [5].

Prediction of Proton Pressure in the Outer Part of the Inner Magnetosphere Using Machine Learning
1 Introduction In the inner magnetosphere, the plasma pressure plays a key role in understanding the main magnetospheric dynamic processes. The knowledge about distributions of the plasma pressure under different geomagnetic conditions is necessary for explaining how the Earth's magnetosphere reaches the magnetostatic equilibrium (the plasma pressure gradient is compensated by Ampere's force) and what specific conditions are necessary to maintain it (Antonova, 2004; Stepanova et al., 2019).
Formation of lunar surface water associated with high-energy electrons in Earth’s magnetotail - Nature Astronomy
Abstract Solar wind implantation is thought to be one of the primary mechanisms in the formation of water (OH/H2O) on the surface of the Moon and possibly on the surface of other airless bodies. The lunar nearside spends ~27% of its daytime in Earth’s magnetotail where the solar wind flux is reduced by as much as ~99%. However, no correlated decrease in surficial water content has yet been seen on the lunar nearside.
