INTRODUCTION Radiography is the primary diagnostic imaging modality to assess pathology affecting the hoof capsule (Butler et al., 2016; Sellke et al., 2023; Sherlock & Parks, 2013). Several conditions can result in changes in the thickness of the dorsal hoof wall (DHW) (Butler et al., 2016). Radiographic measurements and reference ranges of DHW thickness have been described in lame and nonlame horses (Cripps & Eustace, 1999; Goulet et al., 2015; Linford et al., 1993; Mullard et al., 2020).
