Abstract Accumulating evidence has suggested that depression is associated with an increased risk of Parkinson’s disease (PD), yet whether pre-clinical depressive symptoms in PD development and the potential mediating effects of metabolomic profiles remain unclear. We aimed to examine the association between depressive symptoms and PD risk, evaluate effect modification by genetic susceptibility, and assess metabolomic mediation.

Key Points In drug safety studies, the use of the National Patient Register to identify cancer outcomes is less likely to be constrained by data compilation time compared to the Swedish Cancer Register. This study evaluated the consistency between cancer diagnoses from the National Patient Register as compared to the Swedish Cancer Register via accuracy measurements. The consistency depended on cancer sites. Higher consistency was observed for breast, male genital, and oral cancers.
