Recent studies suggest that apoptosis in macrophages plays a significant role in host defence against intracellular pathogens like viruses, fungi, protozoan, and bacteria, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tb). It is still unclear if micromolecules inducing apoptosis could be an attractive approach to combat the intracellular burden of M. tb. Hence, the present study has investigated the anti-mycobacterial effect of apoptosis mediated through phenotypic screening of micromolecules.

While the Conservatives experienced losses across the country during the General Election , Buckinghamshire voters restored their MPs to Parliament. Counts took place overnight (June 8-9) but Tory celebrations were tempered by the national picture. At just before 6am on Friday morning, it was confirmed that the country has a hung parliament. Theresa May called an election to bring a "strong stable!" government - a plan which appears to have backfired. Here are the Buckinghamshire results in full:

British Airways flight cancellations as second walkout from cabin crew set to go ahead

A second wave of strike action by British Airways (BA) cabin crew will get under way on Thursday (January 19). The three-day walkout by workers on long and short haul flights out of Heathrow Airport will continue as the row over "poverty pay" remains unresolved. The 72-hour stoppage will begin at 12.01am and follows the 48-hour strike which saw picket lines set up across the country from Tuesday (January 10).
