Domestic abuse and coercive control are widespread, with statistics indicating that around 30% of women and 20% of men in England and Wales experience abuse by a partner, ex-partner or family member during their lives (Office for National Statistics (ONS), 2025). There are many pervasive stereotypes and myth-based assumptions about who experiences domestic abuse but, in reality, anyone can experience it, irrespective of age, ethnicity, sexuality or socioeconomic status.
