1 Introduction The aesthetic disciplines of visual arts, music, dance, theater, and creative writing are woven into our lives and infuse popular culture. Historically, social issues and the arts are constant threads in our experiences. We experience both differently, yet much like popular culture, they are a commonality of life (Beyer 2000). Individuals and groups regularly try to create change through collective action or activism in response to pervasive social issues.

Experiential learning and reflective dialogue are essential components of leadership learning. When leadership educators incorporate these practices into leadership training, they provide opportunities for leadership learners to develop foundational knowledge and skills for engaging in the leadership process.

Washington’s hospitals can — and must — do better by their nurses and health care workers if we want to keep them amid this COVID-19 shortage.
