Tanzania’s mining sector has experienced remarkable growth, doubling its contribution to the economy over the past two decades. This growth can largely be attributed to the mineral policy reforms initiated in 1997, which have led to over $3.0 billion in investments in the sector. Today, the country boasts eight large-scale mines and numerous small-scale operations, positioning mining as a vital source of foreign exchange, employment, and government revenue.

In a bold move to modernize public service delivery, the Tanzanian government has announced plans to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its e-government platforms, with the goal of enhancing efficiency and transparency in tax collection. This strategic initiative reflects a commitment to using advanced technology to tackle long-standing challenges in revenue administration.

Tanzania’s government aims to raise a staggering USD 1 billion through carbon trading this year. Speaking in parliament on February 9, Minister of State, Office of the Vice President (Union and Environment) Hon. Selemani Jafo announced that 39 carbon projects have already been registered with the government, while 12 have received the green light to proceed. But amid the optimism, questions linger: is this a sustainable path, and will the benefits reach all corners of the country?
