Hello, I'm Sam! I'm a third-year student at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, pursuing a bachelor's degree in Journalism with a concentration in Media Innovation and a minor in Global Politics. I chose Media Innovation to explore my passions for audience engagement, creating trustworthy political media, and innovating news for future generations of technology and society.
Throughout the early part of my multimedia career, I have gained experience in social media marketing, content creation, audience engagement monitoring, and producing visually compelling content for digital media. I thrive in environments that value creativity in storytelling. Over the past few months as a news reporter for Mustang News, Cal Poly's award-winning student newspaper, I have covered breaking news shifts, written explainers on campus issues and national politics, produced multimedia content on Election Day, and more. As an aspiring student journalist, I aim to apply the skills I am developing through my journalism education and student journalism to an internship in a newsroom or similar news organization, so I can broaden my abilities and make a more global impact.
I was raised among writers who nurtured me into who I am today. As an adult, there is nothing I want more than to go out into the world and share the stories of our planet's people. I am particularly interested in political, cultural, and environmental journalism, and I have made it my mission to explore these topics in my career. The first step to building a trustworthy community is to make its members feel heard and represented, and that is exactly what I aim to do with my work.
