Kor Kitchen brings the taste of Afghanistan to SLO County

Kor means “home” in Pashto, one of the official languages of Afghanistan. That’s exactly what San Luis Obispo is to Sophia Zekria, an Afghan immigrant and founder of Kor Kitchen, serving the first Afghan cuisine in SLO County. Since she was a little girl in Kabul, Zekria has loved cooking. Today, Zekria hopes to expand Kor Kitchen from catering and pop-ups to a permanent restaurant space. However, she didn’t pursue cooking professionally until she moved to SLO.

Dolly Parton, frequent Madonna Inn visitor, dies at 80

Dolly Parton, country music icon and frequent guest of the Madonna Inn, died on Tuesday, according to an announcement by her nephew on Instagram. She was 80 years old. Parton was a frequent visitor to the San Luis Obispo area during the years she lived in Solvang on Alisal Road. Parton lived at the property from 2004 to 2014, using it as a hidden getaway from the bustle of Hollywood life, according to SFGATE. Parton never acknowledged the property in public.
