Cardinals aiming to trade QB?

Cardinals Aiming To Trade QB? Original
Sitting with a 2025 Giants-like setup in which two veteran quarterbacks are on the roster accompanying a rookie-deal player, the Cardinals have long made sense as a team that could trade a passer before the deadline. That may be an organizational preference. With Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew in Arizona’s first- and second-string spots, third-round rookie Carson Beck is blocked at the moment. But a recent report indicated the team understandably wants to evaluate Beck this season.
Former Cowboys All-Pro DB Cornell Green Passes Away
Former Cowboys All-Pro defensive back and longtime Broncos scout Cornell Green died at 86. The Cowboys announced the decorated defender’s passing Wednesday. Green played 13 seasons for the Cowboys and never missed a game. The acclaimed DB, who spent extensive time at both cornerback and safety, spent his entire NFL career in Dallas. He later spent nearly 30 years as a Broncos scout, having begun his scouting career while still active with the Cowboys.

Seahawks Did Not Make Offer To RB Kenneth Walker Original
Used in a timeshare with Zach Charbonnet for most of his Seahawks contract year, Kenneth Walker will return to Seattle as a Chief in Week 7 as the NFL’s rushing leader. The former Seahawks second-round pick is off to a dominant start with his new team, which deviated from a yearslong stretch of minimizing the running back position in terms of investments.
Broncos Designate RB Jonah Coleman For Return; Latest On Patrick Surtain, Jonathon Cooper Original
As concerns about Bo Nix’s start to his third season emerge, the young quarterback will have some help soon. The Broncos designated rookie running back Jonah Coleman for return from IR on Wednesday, the Denver Gazette’s Chris Tomasson tweets. On IR since suffering a high ankle sprain in Week 2, Coleman has 21 days to be moved back onto the team’s 53-man roster (or be placed on season-ending IR).
Cowboys Not Planning Seller Trades; OLB Josh Sweat On Radar? Original
Back-to-back losses moved the Cowboys to 2-4. While that would position a team to consider dealing away pieces at a trade deadline, Dallas is in a strange position due to the NFC East’s lack of quality. Issues throughout the division leave it wide open. Not exactly known to make seller’s moves at a deadline, Jerry Jones all but confirmed nothing of the sort will happen in Dallas this year.
Trade Rumors: 49ers, Mack, Godwin, Bucs, Steelers, Bills, Bennett, Rams Original
The 49ers have managed to glide to 6-0 despite their usual run of injuries. Although the wide receiver positions is reeling right now, San Francisco has played much of this season without Nick Bosa. The former Defensive Player of the Year has missed four games due to a calf injury sustained in practice. Bosa is not on IR, but he and 2025 first-round pick Mykel Williams — activated off the reserve/PUP list in Week 5 — have not played together since Bosa’s ACL tear suffered in Week 3 of last season.
NFLPA Seeking Investigation Into Eagles’ Handling Of Jalen Hurts
Hours after the NFL cleared the Eagles of wrongdoing in connection with Jalen Hurts playing in Week 5 after a blood clot diagnosis, the NFLPA released a statement seeking an investigation into the developments that led to the quarterback suiting up against the Jaguars in London. The Philadelphia quarterback spent hours at the Cleveland Clinic in London the night before the Jacksonville game.
Colts Poised To Pay For Ownership Allowing Numerous Chris Ballard Attempts At Post-Andrew Luck Recovery
The Colts’ inward-focused roster-construction strategy came up at various points in this space, and while Chris Ballard changed up late in his GM tenure, the long-held focus on internal builds proved costly when the team was unable to stack draft classes that matched the muscle of 2018. Franchises have overcome worse, of course. The 49ers remained one of the NFL’s best teams despite a spectacular miss on Trey Lance.

Cardinals Notes: Harrison, Nabers, Brissett, Beck, Sweat
The Cardinals moved on from Marvin Harrison Jr. for a Texans package highlighted by a second-round pick, completing a historically early separation from a top-10 wide receiver draft choice. Harrison did not pan out in Arizona, and Houston will see if pairing the Ohio State product with college teammate C.J. Stroud will reinvigorate the former mega-prospect. Trade-down rumors followed the Cardinals in 2024, though they cooled once the Patriots chose Drake Maye.

Latest On WR Mike Evans; 49ers Not Eyeing Big WR Trade? Original
Brock Purdy’s MVP candidacy may could benefit from what is happening to the 49ers’ wide receiving corps, as the team remains unbeaten. But the attrition may be too much overcome soon. Mike Evans represents the latest San Francisco wideout who may be out of the equation for the time being. The 49ers finished their narrow Commanders win without their top six receivers — at least, their hopeful sextet entering training camp.

Rams’ Davante Adams Facing Potential Two-Month Absence; Kobie Turner Heading To IR
Adams is among those unsigned for 2027, and this injury stands to affect his upcoming free agent market. Adams suffering two hamstring issues with the Rams comes after a run of sustained health. The veteran weapon missed time due to a hamstring injury with the Raiders in 2024, though that was also around the point he had angled for a trade out of Las Vegas.
Rams’ Davante Adams Facing Potential Two-Month Absence; Kobie Turner Heading To IR
It keeps getting worse for the preseason Super Bowl LXI favorite. Already dealing with a host of injuries, the Rams will be without Davante Adams for a while. A ruptured hamstring will sideline the All-Pro wide receiver, Sean McVay said Monday (via The Athletic’s Nate Atkins). Additionally, defensive tackle Poona Ford is out for the season. McVay added (via Atkins) defensive lineman Kobie Turner is heading to IR.
Patriots Place WR Romeo Doubs On IR Original
The Patriots continue to see their plans to use offseason receiver acquisitions A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs together fizzle. Just as Brown returned from IR, Doubs is out of the equation. Doubs is now on New England’s IR list, per the team. The free agent pickup suffered a shoulder injury against the Jets on Sunday. The Pats signed defensive back Elliot Davison from their practice squad to take Doubs’ roster spot. A diving Doubs 42-yard touchdown reception will lead him off New England’s 53-man roster.
Bills To Bring Back Tre’Davious White
Struggling on defense, the Bills still sit 5-1 thanks to Josh Allen’s usual run of strong play. But Buffalo will make a move to potentially bolster its defense midway through the season. Tre’Davious White is returning to the team. White is joining the Bills’ practice squad, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. The move will precede a vault back to Buffalo’s active roster. The former Bills All-Pro turned down opportunities elsewhere, preferring a return to Buffalo. More to come.
Rams Place K Blake Grupe On IR
The Rams’ special teams struggles included another interesting chapter Sunday. Blake Grupe, signed off the Jets’ practice squad last week, suffered an injury during the first half of his Rams debut. Grupe will miss significant time with his new team. Grupe’s knee injury will require an IR stint. The Rams announced that move Monday. Barring a highly unexpected Harrison Mevis return, Los Angeles will need to shop for another new kicker.
Stephen Jones: Cowboys ‘Absolutely’ Believe In HC Brian Schottenheimer Original
Brian Schottenheimer represented an unusual hire during the 2025 offseason, considering more than a decade had passed since the veteran offensive staffer’s previous NFL head coaching interview, but the Cowboys boasted a high-octane attack last season. Dallas ranked second in scoring offense in 2025, but a last-place defensive finish held the team back. This season, the Cowboys are not producing on the same level offensively.
Chargers Considering Offensive Changes Original
Coming off consecutive playoff trips, the Chargers are a stunning 0-6 to start Jim Harbaugh’s third season. Their offense, in particular, has been a mess. While the usual batch of injuries has emerged for the team, Justin Herbert was not playing well before those maladies began removing starters from the equation. Herbert has not looked to be a good fit in Mike McDaniel’s offense.
Colts CB Sauce Gardner To Miss Time Original
Sauce Gardner arrived in Indianapolis as a hopeful trajectory-changing presence on defense at the 2025 trade deadline. The two-time All-Pro, however, has not moved the needle in the way the team aimed. Injuries have interfered with the ex-Jets star’s time with his second NFL team. A calf strain sidelined Gardner late last season, and the issue has resurfaced. Another Gardner calf strain is expected to force missed action, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport notes.
Cowboys CB Joey Porter Jr.’s Injury Status Not Contract-Related
A separate issue has Porter questionable heading into tonight’s Dallas-Green Bay matchup. Porter is dealing with an ankle injury suffered in practice this week, WFAA’s Ed Werder tweets. Porter logged two limited practices and a full practice, though the second limited session coming Friday calls his availability for Week 6 into question. Porter running into yet another issue naturally invites speculation about his pursuit of an extension.
Cowboys CB Joey Porter Jr.’s Injury Status Not Contract-Related
Joey Porter Jr. played in his Cowboys debut, suiting up days after a trade ended his de facto hold-in with the Steelers, but the contract-year cornerback did not play in Week 5. An illness kept Porter on the sideline against the Buccaneers. A separate issue has Porter questionable heading into tonight’s Dallas-Green Bay matchup. Porter is dealing with an ankle injury suffered in practice this week, WFAA’s Ed Werder tweets.

Browns’ Shedeur Sanders Hires Agent; Trade Push On QB’s Radar? Original
Marvin Harrison Jr. signing with an agency this season played a lead role in the Cardinals wide receiver being traded to the Texans. Shedeur Sanders has gone without an agent since entering the league, but he has now hired one. Rumblings around the league do not point to this hire being a mere approach change regarding a future contract. Sanders signed with Adie von Gontard, the CEO of Young Money APAA Sports, today (per ESPN’s Adam Schefter).
Chargers Not Considering Justin Herbert Trade; Tuli Tuipulotu Likely To Draw Interest Original
The NFL has seen four quarterbacks fetch multiple first-round picks in a trade since 2000. Jay Cutler (2009), Matthew Stafford (2021), Deshaun Watson (2022) and Russell Wilson (2022) brought that level of return. Were the Chargers to dangle Justin Herbert, he would almost certainly command an offer in this range. Rumblings about the Chargers selling at this year’s trade deadline have already emerged, with Khalil Mack mentioned as a trade candidate.
Broncos S Talanoa Hufanga Facing Multi-Week Absence Original
Ankle injuries are becoming an issue for the Broncos. After placing Pat Bryant on IR, Denver played without Patrick Surtain in Week 5 and will almost definitely do so again in Week 6. Those two injuries preceded Talanoa Hufanga going down against the Chargers. Hufanga has not practiced this week, and ESPN.com’s Jeremy Fowler notes the ankle injury he sustained in Los Angeles is expected to sideline him for two or three weeks.

Browns seeking third- or fourth-round pick for WR Jerry Jeudy?
The Browns acquired Jerry Jeudy in what amounted to a buy-low deal in March 2024. Cleveland sent Denver fifth- and sixth-round picks for the inconsistent wide receiver, taking on his fifth-year option salary as the Broncos prepared to absorb what was then the biggest dead money bill (Russell Wilson's) in NFL history. More Jeudy inconsistency has transpired since.
Chargers sign QB Jake Browning
The Chargers placed Trey Lance on IR ahead of their Week 5 game, leaving rookie UDFA D.J. Uiagalelei as the only healthy backup option behind Justin Herbert. Jake Browning will now represent another such option. Browning joined the Chargers on Tuesday, according to The Ringer's Tom Pelissero . It is a practice squad agreement.
Texans’ Complicated WR Decade Forms Connection To Historically Early Cardinals Escape Route
After a strange process featuring leaks of a trade but no destination moved the Cardinals’ Marvin Harrison Jr. saga toward its conclusion, the Texans ventured into the equally weird position as a buyer at 0-4. Harrison’s fresh start will come with a team that has covered its transaction bases at wide receiver under GM Nick Caserio.
NFL suspends Rams LT Alaric Jackson two games for punching Bills OLB Bradley Chubb
Jackson — who has run into a previous suspension and was arrested this offseason — will miss Los Angeles' matchups against the Cardinals and Raiders. While the Rams did well to find a left tackle from the UDFA ranks, Jackson has previously been suspended for two games (in 2024) for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. This offseason, the Iowa product was arrested on a felony domestic battery charge in June.
Door Opening For Fernando Mendoza Move Into Raiders’ Starting Lineup Original
After a narrow loss to the Chiefs in Week 4, the Raiders were on the losing end of a 45-17 result in Foxborough. The Patriots loss concluded with the visitors giving Fernando Mendoza his first NFL reps, and discussions about when to make the transition to the No. 1 pick look to be near. Talks on the Raiders moving from Kirk Cousins to Mendoza starting to form within the organization, according to the California Post’s Vincent Bonsignore.
Tyreek Hill’s Civil Trial Concludes; ‘Chiefs Or Nowhere’ For Embattled WR? Original
Tyreek Hill’s civil trial concluded Tuesday, with a jury awarding the wide receiver’s ex-wife (Lakeeta Vaccaro) a six-figure sum in what amounts to a mixed verdict. A Florida jury awarded Vaccaro $500K in compensatory damages in finding Hill liable for two counts of battery, Defector’s Diana Moskovitz reports. Hill, 32, was found not liable on the remaining five counts of battery, one count of assault and one count of continuing domestic violence, Moskowitz reports.
Browns Seeking Third- Or Fourth-Round Pick For WR Jerry Jeudy?
Jeudy’s 2024 season, which brought an original-ballot Pro Bowl nod, made it look like the Browns had the former first-round pick tied to a team-friendly extension (three years, $52.5MM). But the seventh-year veteran has not come close to matching that level of production since. Trade rumors have swirled, and although recent reports have indicated the Browns are not planning to deal Jeudy, veteran insider Jordan Schultz notes the feeling around the league points to the receiver being available.

Gayle Benson: Recent Saints Performance Level Unacceptable Original
After a strong second half forced overtime against the Lions in Week 1 preceded an upset win in Baltimore, the Saints have lost three straight. They are now 1-4, with the past two losses producing some ugly box scores. The Falcons routed the Saints in a national TV spot, and the Vikings’ top-tier defense held Tyler Shough to 96 passing yards in Week 5. Owner Gayle Benson addressed the team’s struggles today.
Two-Game Suspension Expected For Rams LT Alaric Jackson
The incident occurred after Chubb and Jackson exchanged words. Jackson followed Chubb and punched him in the head with his right hand. Chubb did not retaliate, as Bills teammates held him back. With ESPN cameras catching the strike, Jackson was all but certain to be suspended. And the NFL has acted quickly, moving Matthew Stafford’s blindside protector out of action for two games.
Giants work out Yannick Ngakoue, to sign Dawuane Smoot
Yannick Ngakoue and Dawuane Smoot reunited Monday, with the former Jaguars teammates working out for the Giants. Rather than sign the more accomplished edge rusher, New York is bringing in Smoot. Smoot, Ngakoue and Julian Okwara worked out for the Giants on Monday, ESPN.com's Jordan Raanan and KPRC2's Aaron Wilson note . It will be Smoot signing with Big Blue's practice squad, per Raanan . This news comes shortly after the Giants placed Chauncey Golston on IR , where he joins Brian Burns.
Eagles to keep Lane Johnson on 53-man roster this season
Regularly structuring contracts to include void years and option bonuses for cap purposes, the Eagles have recently processed retirements as post-June 1 cuts to defray costs over a two-year period. That was the case with Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox in 2024, and Lane Johnson's retirement is heading in that direction too Johnson will be positioned to remain an Eagle in 2026, albeit one with no intention of playing any longer.
Eagles To Keep Lane Johnson On 53-Man Roster This Season
Johnson will be positioned to remain an Eagle in 2026, albeit one with no intention of playing any longer. Philadelphia is planning to keep Johnson on its 53-man roster, according to The Athletic’s Zach Berman. The Eagles declared Johnson a gameday inactive in Week 5; that looks set to be the case for the team’s final 12 contests. Because the Eagles structure contracts with option bonuses and void years, base salaries for veterans are regularly at the veteran-minimum level.
