Interview

Have you ever used a typewriter?

I have not!

How is social media changing news?

Anybody can be in contact with anyone now and instead of seeing what happened the next day in the paper, we see things happening in real time

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

I like when people send me an email!

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Good old fashioned Notepad with tons of social media to craft something appealing.

What's your favorite social network?

Instagram.

Who do you wish followed you?

There's too many to choose from!

Why did you become a journalist?

I like to know what's going on in the world around me and to have the ability to keep others informed.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No, but I did work for my college's literary journal when I earned my associate's degree and edited the poetry section!

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I have a feature called Good Spots where I explore local outdoor areas and take photos and videos to help build a more interactive story.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Submit and pitch always.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

I really enjoy covering new businesses, so when people message me about restaurants or shops they've just opened I always try to cover them!

What's your favorite drink?

Unsweetened iced tea.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

By a lake somewhere or in some woods on a trail!

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

My guilty pleasures are Buzzfeed and Vice.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

Some people think it can be soft and boring, but society has some pretty complex layers when it comes to the life beat.
