Practical Applications This proof-of-concept work is a preliminary investigation on the development of hydrophobic concrete that could be used as masonry blocks in practice. The achieved strength is sufficient to be used in a range of cementitious products such as concrete piles in geotechnical applications, mining backfill applications, and pedestrian blocks for municipality development.

Samples of compacted clayey silt mixed with an amount of discrete natural fibers were exposed to the natural environment and controlled events of 15wetting/drying cycles for 105 days.
